Best way to dump gold coins????

I'm a Morgan collector, and know nothing about gold. My cousin just inherited a dozen or so gold coins, and wants to know the best way to sell them. I don't think they have numismatic value - - Krugerands, Mexican 50 pesos, Chinese 1 Oz pieces, Canadian $50, and Panamanian 100 Balboas. Should I tell him to bring them to a dealer? Put them on ebay?

I'd put them on eBay. Of course I put lots of stuff on eBay so a few more isn't any bother for me.

a dealer will cap your upside, they'll lock your price as a function of bv, if you ebay it, you might catch someone who really likes the coin, and gets into a mini bid-war, but then you take the risk of dealing with the public, and the ebay/ppal/shipping hassles, so you kinda have to pick your poison...

Determine the bullion value and attempt to sell them to a local dealer. If he low-balls the offer, put them on eBay.

My experience has been that it is hardly worth it to sell bullion value stuff on ebay. If you have any quantity, you are definitely better off with a local/national dealer. The buy/sell spread of this stuff is tight, and when you consider that ebay will get 3% and Paypal might get another 3%, the dealer usually gives you the better price and without the hassle.

Yes, that is one advantage, but the buyers here will want to buy your gold 10% back of spot with high quality photos, return privilige, postage included, etc.

Try AMPEX. They sell but also will buy GOLD coins.

Sell them to Dillon Gage or Kitco. Kitco does ok with Eagles and Kruggerands. Other stuff takes longer to process. Dillon Gage is probably your best bet. 800-375-4653

Travel to an area coin show and offer the group to dealers. Often there will be one dealer in attendance that is known to pay up for gold bullion. Most table dealers will not want bullion themselves, so they will offer up the name of this bullion specialist.
