Anyone Collect Bullion American Eagle Silver Dollars?

Hi I have a couple of dozen Ngc/Pcgs 1986/2006 bullion silver eagle dollars sets all MS/69, the question I want to find out is it getting harder to find wholes sets of ms 69's?, Furthermore, some idiot stated on a coinshow that a raw bu silver bullion dollar would grade a min/ms 67 and is just worth as much as the ms 69's coins. Why is this? Higher grades should be valued higher right? ty g

Bullion value is the same but the coin's value is not the same based on year. Some (like the '96) are worth more than the others.

What I think that the guy was saying that because SAEs were never meant to circulate and were sold only to dealers and collectors, that they are, in general, much higher grade than circulating coins. Whether one is MS67, or MS69, the value should not be that terribly far from melt, either way. Of course a 69 is more appealing to a colllector than a 67 and worth more, but its not a big difference like there would be if you had a coin like a Morgan Dollar in both 67 and 69.

A number of posts have indicated the propensity of MS-69 silver eagles to develope ugly problem spots whilst inside the slabs.

They DO circulate. Rare, but it happens. I bought them from BofA tellers at our branch who bought them out of the drawer with their own money.
  • I have a complete ungraded BU Silver Eagle Set (2006 in the mail). I just couldn't see the justification of having them graded as the cost/benefit is almost nil.

I have a complete BU set in snappy holders and a proof set (2001-2005) in original packaging.....

I don't see the point in getting MS/PR-69/70 coins of these, in my opinion there are other interesting coins to go out and collect.....
