NewP: 1879-O Morgan PL.......grade?

I bought this coin at the Westford MA show last weekend. It is very nice and in my opinion PL and was sold to me as such. What are your thoughts for a grade?

Superb image. Very crisp, and almost no shadowing, (which is tough on Morgans with their large surface area).

Looks nice, there might be enough contrast for DMPL. The heavy mark on the cheek, and scattered marks in the fields keeps the grade at 63 IMO.

I'm not sure that's a mark. It might just be a shiney patch. They tend to look like marks.

Looks too jagged for a shiney spot but mabey.

The mark is not as pronounced as the photo makes it out to be. It is light and a bit reflective but my camera exaggerates it. The wonder of photo technology. It could go dmpl but I think PCGS will not go that far. It is definately a candidate for MS64PL with th coin in hand but again it could just as easily go MS63PL. Tough coin to get higher than MS63, just look at the price variance.

You are right that ingle images cannot be completely trusted, for better or worse. Even beyond the two predominant marks, that coin looks really choppy in those images. You have it in hand though. The frost looks nice in the images.

The amount of cameo contrast, or lack thereof, has no bearing on a coin getting a PL or DMPL designation.

I vote 64PL. Not many marks (and PLs show marks more than other coins).
