Have you sold your "junk" silver yet?

Silver $10.10 oz (PCGS homepage).

You know...the AG spacers, the common date common mintmark extras, the not at all rare Mercs, Rosies, Washingtons, Franklins and Kennedys?

Still got them?

Gonna keep them?

Why? Why not?

I've got a little over $50 face in loose silver. Thinking about getting rid of it but haven't decided.
GO AHEAD! I DOUBLE-DOG DARE YOU TO RATE ME A 1!

If you want to sell, send me a PM.

  • i was thinking the same thing yesterday right after silver broke $10/oz. i am going to wait until tomorrow when i hit the local coin show and see what the dealers are charging for rolls of bulk commom silver. if it looks like they are getting stupid money for them then i will start putting my rolls on ebay a little at a time and stretch out the auctions over a period of 10 days per listing. this way i can cost average up as silver keeps going higher. i bought alot of my bulk under $5/oz so i am a happy camper.

My greedy little paws keep any and ALL Silver that comes my way. For some reason I would just rather stockpile it then sell it. Then again I dont have any great quantity of it.

To each their own.... sell if you want (or perhaps you need to). But there are many signs that silver is just starting to rise. What impresses me, is how every time that silver does take a good drop for a change.... it does not stay down. Two days later and it has regained the lost amount and probably more. If a person sells in this kind of environment, it is hard to buy back in; you may have to pay more than you sold for.

Each has to make their own decisions.... no guarantees!! (but I'm keeping mine for awhile longer yet).

  • Hold on to it man! Silver has a long ways to go, especially if the ability for people to buy it like they do gold gets approved. Silver is going to double or triple in price before long.
  • I already sold my junk silver. image Well I still have $1.10 of it left....

At least I have some gold..
  • Sell? for what?? Dollars???

Do you really want your future based in dollars the way this gov has been passing them in truckloads around the world.

Ill keep my silver, thank you.

I dunno... I sold my gold way way too early -- under $400.. slap me, please -- but needed the money to cover travel expenses for a consulting gig, so guess I got a decent return out of it anyway. And I unloaded a 100 ounce bar of silver @ $6 a couple years ago. Plus a neat California Crown Mint 25 OZ bar in the $7 range. Think maybe I shouldn't pull the trigger so fast this time around. Let's see how crazy it gets first. image

crito, that's exactly why I am reluctant to sell silver, even though I would make a nice profit. With the upward trend that has been occuring the past year, it becomes more challenging to know when to buy back in if one wants to keep playing the game.

But fortunately, I am not in a position where I feel that I have to sell, for financial reasons. If I needed the money, probably would not hesitate to take the profit, and just hope to be able to get back in later.

I sold most of mine, but I still have about 3 rolls of dimes, 2 rolls of quarters, and 3 rolls of WLHs.

I already sold my junk silver...back in 1980 at 48.00 an ounce. (Well, actually I traded it for a house)
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Actually, today will be interesting to see what silver does. I'm sure it is true that there will be profit taking now that it has broken through the $10 level. The question now... is whether it will close out today/and thus this week, still above the $10 mark. If it does, I suspect it will do some more sprinting next week.

I remember when many sold their silver when it rose to $6. Silver had been stuck under $5 for years so they were happy to make a little bit.

I thought of selling silver but it keeps going up.

My 76 year old dad called me last night... He's got 40+ oz. of gold, 10 MS61 PCGS OGH Double Eagles and about 300 oz in silver rounds.

Asks me, "So son, what should I do?"

I said "Do you need the dollars? Got any debt?" He says no.

    "Want to buy anything?" Nope.

"So dad, what do YOU think you should do?"

"Guess I'll just let it ride, son."

I'm letting it ride, too - junk and all.

I haven't, but from an investment standpoint, I could (and probably should) sell half of it and use the proceeds to buy nice coins! I don't think the "rate of return" I've gotten over the past year is likely to continue, short term. I understand the long trm Ag bulls arguements, but anytime one sees a 40% annual increase, whether it be a stock or silver, its probably a good time to sell a bit and invest the money in something else.

  • Overhead resistance was @ 10.00

What you have is a rising bottoms and rising tops line,in other words higher highs and higher lows, very bullish sign, but yet very tenous.

Any large change in demand or production will lead to wild price swings.

Lots of mines out there that are not profitable @ 9.00 per once, might be @ say 11.00

Production goes up,demand falters a bit, next thing ya know its 7 bucks !

A lot of the silver pressure is in anticipation of the ETF (which I posted to a completely disinterested audience I guess)

Those who are paying attention have known about the ETF for awhile now, those who don't aren't interested anyway.

Actually gold and silver posts are not all that compatible with the coin forum. Precious metals are for investors, numismatics is for collectors.

as I have heard it put

"buy precious metals for investment, buy numismatics for fun."

Yep, sold all my junk silver, about $300 face value. I think it was about 1980. Took the money and bought three nice coins. Never looked back.

  • A better question is...are you selling your junk copper?

Pre-zinc pennies are now worth $0.015

I actually went through my copper and rolled up the copper cents. Good thing most of the rolls of cents that I have were pre 1982 or else it would've been a pain sorting them all out for only a few copper cents per roll.

I plan to hold onto my silver and actaully plan to buy more real soon. I haven't even had a chance to go through my "junk" silver to fill up coin books etc yet.

I've been picking up 90% silver coin and bars since it was $5-6 an ounce. Last bought at $8. Have no intention of selling anything now. I'm not looking for a little profit, but a tripling or better. When that time comes I'll start to think about it. Silver to me is like an emergency cash fund. It will probably go higher than 95% of people think. Isn't that how bull markets typically go?
