My purchases at the Palm Beach show today..Opinions wanted please !! see coin pics

The show was slow to start but became busier around lunch time. After we signed in we were given a 2006 silver eagle at the door, that was a nice surprise. went around the floor looking and asking asking and looking. fpund 2 dealers that had coins I was inetrested in.
They also had NGC there and graders were giving free opinions. I watched him for a bit and he did tell a few people thier coins wouldnt grade. while some received better news.

First is a 1961 Franklin ms64 fbl PCGS.
I love the colors and after looking carefully I spotted what looked like a die crack. I went to NGC and he did confirm it..pretty cool

Next up is a NGC 1941d Walker that I needed for my growing short set. Very nice strike

AND NOW

I have been looking for this for a while..I looked at it very carefully. asked a friend to look at it and the NGC grader. all said it would come back as a 63-64. the grader said it may have been dipped a while ago but it would grade. I took it to the local coin shop and while he liked it said it was too white for him

I could reallly use some opinions on this one..it's purchased so its too late but I like it. I just wanted to feel ok that I bought a solid coin raw

Great toning on that Franklin. I am not a classic commem guy, but agree the Oregon is pretty stark white.

Looks okay. I would have to agree with the grader that it appears to have been dipped. If you are happy with it, then that is all that really matters anyway. If I was looking for that coin, I would have no problem buying one that.

  • The crowd was ok. I'm sure it will be busier on Saturday as its a weekend day. There were a few with all material in different price grades. there were some tables that had baragin slabbed coins..15.00 45.00, and then there were the dealers thaT HAD THE "ATTITUDE". I stopped at 1 table and wanted to look at some Franklins. I waited for about 5 minutes and was not even acknowledged. they were not with any customers. so I walked off.I figured if I wasnt' worth their time they didnt deserve my business.

Then there is the opposite. There was a dealer towards the back that collected error notes. $10.00 bill w/a $1.00 reverse. misprinted Black eagle dollar..we chatted and I am not really into paper but do admire it. I was telling him that and he handed me one of the error bills w/ a $25,000.00 price tag on it. He wass just happy to share his enthusiasm for the hobby.

LOTS OF GOLD.alot of high end material. I was looking very hard at California Comm. he just wouldnt budge on price it was a ms62 but was dripping with luster. he wanted 65 money for it.....we went over gray sheet prices and coin prices prices but I finally walked away from it.
I did see a dealer that loved buffalos ,,I was admiring 2 37d's he had ms66 for $250.00 ea.

Alot of proof walkers....took me about 3 hrs to walk through. I was in no rush.

The show was slow. You could see across the entire bourse without standing on a chair. Competition from other shows probably drew some dealers away/made them late.

On the plus side I bought a 64 Kennedy NGC PR 68 with two sided color, a decent 57D roosie in PCGS 66 FB with obverse green, a cool obverse toned 38 raw proof Lincoln (50/50 AT but way too pretty to pass on), and a superb album toned set of silver roosies....I already have 12 of them punched out to send for grading!!image

I also picked up a half dozen raw MS 69 equivalent silver eagles to place in an album to tone...a sociable local dealer let me look through a huge box at $11.50 each...added 3 raw proof 1989 silver eagles for the same album at $29 each.

Hopefully attendance will jump as the weekend nears, the facility is very nice, but bring a sweater since the AC was at about 65 degrees! Be sure to order a piece of pizza -- $2.50 and surprisingly good!! Parking is $5 and everyone was very, very friendly.
"You keep your 1804 dollar and 1822 half eagle -- give me rainbow roosies in MS68."

I was at the show on setup and on Thursday. Many dealers and I agree that this show was worse than the worst case scenario that we had feared. At least 1/3 of the tables were unoccupied, and public traffic was extremely light. Many of the dealers I talked to were considering leaving some time on Friday afternoon. More dealers are planning not to return for a future show held by the current promoter.

I vote "pass" on all three. That's just my opinion and I am finicky. All three are relatively common coins, though a toned 1961 FBL Franklin is not so easy to find. $135 is an okay price for what you got in the Oregon, but I would not pay it. The Walker looks so-so. I'm sure this is not what you wanted to hear, but when you ask for opinions, you're liable to get them.

I'd say the Oregon has a 50-50 chance of being holdered and that is on the strength of the comments by the people who saw the coin in hand. The image looks worse. If you like the coins, especially the die cracks, then enjoy. What I say doesn't matter much, they are your coins.
