A few years back , for Christmas, my nephew bought me a set of Gold clad quarters.


I think my reply was "Wow nice", I didn't have the heart to tell him.........

I always get coins and even paper money from people. I tell everyone I know I collect and they always come up with something and usually free. One nice lady gave me a Million Dollar Bill. I don't think it was real but sure looked real. Was incased in a plastic sheet and came with a note of authenticity. Someone is always giving me a $2 bill thinking they are rare. At work I get coins from numerous coutries from everyone that knows anyone that lives outside the US or goes somewhere. My neighbors all give me piles of coins they had laying around for years but I have to give them face value for them. They trust me to do the counting. One relative sent me a mountain of so called UNSEARCHED wheatback Lincolns free and I really felt bad that he must have paid someone for them. Naturally all super common dates. I also have a pile of paper money from other countries from people. I'm not a foreign coin or paper money collector so that stuff all goes into a box and put into a safe deposit box for someone in the future to figure out what it all is for.

I got a 9/11 commem from a friend back in either 01 or 02 for Christmas. When I unwrapped it, it was in the same box as a ASE and I didn't have one of those at the time, so when I saw the box, I though I knew what it was and so there was probably a look of disapointment on my face when I actually opened it up. It's nothing I would have bought, but it was still neat.

My mother calls me every time coins are on QVC, telling me what a great deal she can get.

Last one she bought me was a set of 6 bufflao nickels for $15.00. She just won't listen to me.

Yes, I received a set of the 2005 Jefferson Nickles. In my opinion and probably others they were destroyed (plated silver, gold platnium, and 3 d effect). Given to me by my father so I thanked him for the nickles.

One time, my wife surprised me out of my shoes with the gift of a PCGS 1883-CC Morgan in 64DMPL. It is awesome. She also once gave me a gift certificate to the coin store where she bought the Morgan. I can't wait till my son is old enough that I can teach him how to read my coin lists to see dates I need. With him knowing the dates, and my wife knowing that I would prefer PCGS coins, I might have a nice future of gifts ahead of me.

Many years ago, my folks had a friend who had a lot of Mercury Dimes. They collaborated with my wife (she checked my then incomplete set for dates I needed) and they bought about a dozen of the dates I needed. It made for a very nice Christmas surprise.

Just two year ago, my brother-in -law gave me a Canadian Proof-like coin. They were up there visiting and liked the looks of it....I do too, except I don't collect that material. Still nice though and it is the thought that counts!

I had a friend in Amsterdam who wanted a real US silver dollar from his birth year (1972). He is not a collector but knows I am. I bought him a silver proof and mailed it to him. Over the past few years he has mailed me some of the new Dutch commemorative silver coins. I'm sure they are not worth much, but they are interesting.
