Any Red Sox fans out there still love Johnny Damon?

Come on, be honest. OK, maybe love is a strong word but what about like very much. image

If your answer is yes, how are you going to deal with him playing for the Yankees?

    Of course he is.

And I doubt there are any sox fans left who 'love' damon, not after his turncoat tactics of (a) saying 'it's not about the money' and 'I'll never play for the yankees' and (b) going out and doing exactly the opposite of what he said he wouldn't do.

You yankee fans love players with no loyalties, except to their wallets don't you?
  • On 660 today, Mike and Maddog were discussing their disgust with JD's comments that he felt like a new man in the pinstripes. He may be a man without a country for quite some time.

I wonder how long until yankee fans (i.e. spaminator and softy) will give Damon if he has a bad start, before they start ripping him.

Johhny Damon is a phony, and represents everything that is wrong with modern baseball.

I don't rip players on message boards. I rip dip $its like you who are so overwhelmed and obsessed with hating the Yankees. I rip clowns like you who are really dumb enough to actually think that Yankee fans are not allowed to publicly support their team. I rip fools like you, who are so blinded by the hate that you actually think all Yankee fans were born post 1996. Should I stop? image

  • not after his turncoat tactics of (a) saying 'it's not about the money' and 'I'll never play for the yankees'

Well, if Damon did indeed say that then he IS a turncoat. I bought his book "Idiot" so I will soon find out. Just because a player turned on his former team, doesn't make me stop supporting the team that I have rooted for my entire life now that the turncoat is on my team. I would think 99.9% of fans feel the same way.

In regards to the money show me anybody on this board who won't take $17 Million more over 4 years. You can't blame Damon The Sox pulled a "Pedro" on Damon. Nowadays we root for uniforms not players with the rare exception of players like Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams who will stay with their team throughout their careers.

Not if, Spammy. He most certainly did say it, ask anyone in Boston and they will assure you of this.

    << <i>who won't take $17 Million more over 4 years. >>

It was $12 million actually, but who's counting?

    << <i>The Sox pulled a "Pedro" on Damon. >>

No, again. The Sox pretty much knew that Damon was going, so they made him an offer that was high enough to save face, but low enough that someone would come in and beat it. Thank goodness for 'ol George! The Sox identified Crisp as their replacement a while ago, even Damon has mentioned this in his recent "I am still obsessed with Boston" interviews.

I used to like Damon. A lot, actually. I used to overlook the stupid things he would say, and his gimpy throwing arm. Now that his true colors are on display, good luck with him Yankee fans! I think the "man without a country" quote hits the nail on the head. If he doesn't come out of the box strong this season, Yankee "fans" are going to roast him like a pig on a spit.

  • If it wasn't for Damon, the curse would not have been broken. How soon Boston fans forget.

The Sox identified Crisp as their replacement a while ago.

Yeah, if they could not get their first choice, which they did not.

If I were a Red Sox fan I would be concerned. After a downer last year, now the team chemistry is gone. Gone are Pedro, Damon, Mueller, and Millar. Will Manny be gone too?

No Coco Crisp is an upgrade anyways so Damon can have fun being a Yankee and licking Steinbrenners A$$

  • Red Sox team chemistry went with the departure of the Idiots. Now King Idiot Damon is one helluva genious. image

I would rather have crisp. Damon is over the hill, can't field, has a weak ass arm, I can't wait for him to stink this year.
  • AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
Listen to the spaminator try to spin it as if Damon is going to save the yankees.

And softy, I laugh at numbnuts like yourself who try to portray themselves (like spammy) as 'life long' yankee fans, when we all know you started rooting for them in the mid 90s, when they started winning again.

And I see Spammy has no shortage of Damon photos to show off his new crush...I remember last year with his fascination of Randy Johnson.

damon isn't going to make a difference with an over the hill pitching staff. The Yankees staff is a joke. Their only hope is if the Cuban national team defects. They can spend all the money in the world and it doesn't make a difference because they are a bunch of chumps. Their outfield is full of slow men with weak girl arms. A-rod is loser, never won a big game in his life. They no longer have a catcher with any skill. Posada is old and slow. Strikes out whenever he is in a pressure situation. Torre is the most overrated manager in baseball. He is the Phil Jackson of baseball.
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Spammy, Damon was never the Red Sox's "first choice", Theo has always wanted to turn over the team for younger players, and the 4 year offer made to him was never intended to be accepted.

As I said, I liked Damon - and I am not forgetting what he did in Boston. But, I would say the "curse" was broken more likely by what Schilling did in the post-season than Damon. I find it amusing that Yankee "fans" all of a sudden think Damon was the heart of the team, just because you picked him up off the free-agent rack. And, when it comes to team chemistry - should a current-era Yankee fan really be commenting on that?

As usual, you are the town dip $hit. Thats all good though you seem to enjoy it. Funny how the board loser who became a supposed "fan" of the Mariners when Ken Griffey Jr came aboard would have ANYTHING to say about band wagon fans image

  • isn't going to make a difference with an over the hill pitching staff. The Yankees staff is a joke.

Let's see...Wang is 25 years old....Chacon is 27 years old and Pavano, IF he comes back, is 30 years old. Sure, Wang and Chacon are one year wonders.....YADA....YADA...YADA. Let's not forget although not getting any younger, Randy Johnson was 5-0 in September 2005 with a 2.22 ERA. He was largely responsible for the Yankees winning the division. I remember the 1-0 gem against the Red Sox.

The Red Sox starting staff is not exactly young either and there are a lot of questions marks there too. And the Red Sox relief corps is a mess.

  • jad22jad22 Posts: 535 ✭✭
whatever dude. Johnson is old, moose is old, pavano has a bad back, chiacon(really stretching it now), jaret wright(great signing), apparently you are stuck on stupid.

  • Isn't it a shame how Yankee haters have to argue by calling Yankee fans names?
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
The Yanks starting pitching is a "mess", and not even in the same league as Boston or Toronto this season.

Wang? Chacon? Come on - if that's who you are relying on, get ready for a long season. Mussina is about finished, and Johnson is 43/44 (?) pitching on arthritic knees and has shown he cannot win a big, pressure game in NY. Pavano is going to open the season on the DL, and the other great free agent signing from 2005 Jaret Wright is a train wreck. Thank goodness the Yanks have Rivera - he is the only bright spot on that staff (and he's no spring chicken anymore, either).

I would rather take my chances with a healthy Schilling, Josh Beckett, Wakefield, Papelbon (the next Roger Clemens - just had to throw that in for Soft!) and Arroyo. Not to mention our bullpen is completely revamped from last year...if Foulke doesn't regain his form, there are several options to choose from this year, unlike last.

Anybody see Schilling this spring? Man did he get fat. It looks like he left Boston for a winter long Octoberfest after getting dumped in the playoffs and just got back now. I thought he was gonna drop his mitt on the mound the other day and start dancing, slapping his ankles, the whole bit ....

More Damon nonsense - from today's Boston Globe:

How much would it have taken to keep Damon in Boston?

''Probably $11.5 million" a year, he said, or $46 million, the midpoint between the Sox' offer ($40 million) and the Yankees' ($52 million).

''They set a value on me, and I respect that," he said. ''They didn't want to go over that threshold. But it's $3 million a year, and with that $3 million, I could help out so many unfortunate people."

Now, the money's not for him! He just keeps opening his mouth and saying the wrong things...stay tuned!

hahaha 'I could have helped out so many unfortunate people'

Yes, because with 10 million, he couldn't help out anyone but himself! Look, his agent (Boras) ALWAYS gets his players to take the max deal, 'loyalty' be damned.

You yankee 'fans' are reaping what you're sowing with this clown. And if it truly was only 1.5 million more, then why didn't his agent say to boston 'we're this close...let's up the deal'

Damon is trying to save face, and he's sounding more and more ridiculous every time he opens his yap.

I agree - I was gone all day, and I come back to the same old, same old. A leopard never changes his spots, I guess.
