When you get that coin in hand- please take a very very good look at the lower left corner (obverse is facing you) it appears that the slab has been pryed on- check it carefully.
True a good deal for a 63, but would really hate to see someone get cooked first time purchasing- even if his rating is perfect.
to the fresh meat on the block!
I don't like that the seller hypes it as an un-attributed PL coin.
Nice way to get your feet wet, not much down side.

I checked out the coin and the edge of the plastic like you said and it does look just a little bit rough but I dont think it has ever been opened. I will try to take a pic and post it here.
Thanks!
Odds are extremely low that that slab has been tampered with. For goodness sakes it is a ~$40 coin in an ANACS holder. If someone wanted to take the time and risk to tamper, they'd go for at least an MS65 and/or a much better date.
<< <i>Good price. Nice enough coin. I prefer white Morgans to "original" toning like that one has. I also am a bit miffied, myself that the auction title says PL, but the slab doesn't. For what you paid, however, you can't really have gotten burned. >>
What does PL mean?

<< <i>The 1878-s is a common date in MS 63. On any given day there are usually many for sale to chose from. What was it about that coin that caused you to chose it above all of the other examples for sale on ebay or in dealer inventories?

First remember that I am new and had no idea what was common or not common. I just noticed a nice morgan that was graded MS that was selling within my price range. (available cash) Also I really like Anacs with they way they treated me when I visted them. (I live in Columbus)
I will say that when I got the coin it was definately not prooflike and after further review I believe it was cleaned. As far as if the holder was tampered with I doubt it. Only about one inch in the left corner looks a little rough and its so light that I would totaly believe it was done at Anacs.
I will try to get a picture of this coin this weekend and post it,
Thanks again to everyone who has posted.

Nice coin btw. Starting with an inexpensive, graded coin on a new series is nice. You can start to get a feel for what MS quality is.
Going to the show in Columbus in April? I sure will be.

Yep.
It will be my first show, so I am trying to get my father-in-law who has collected longer than I have been alive to go with me, that way I dont spend all my money on grab bags. :-)

Spend time before you spend cash. Look at lots of coins and learn to grade so that you will be able to tell whether a coin is "nice" for the grade before you buy it, and whether it is "nicer" or "better" than others in the market. Remember, looking is free.
Read up on the subject so that you will know what is common and what is not. For a general start on collecting coins generally, here is link to the Coin Guide on this website, written by the master. Link
By the way, before I buy something I try to ask myself "what is special about this coin compared others?" If the answer is "nothing", I don't buy it.
