it's all marketing (my profession of choice - at least at the moment). that kind of verbiage is there for Joe Average Sports Card Collector. Not someone who has over 3,000 posts on a sports message board.
I personally don't do this with my cards, but I understand why. It's simple math. If they lose 1 bidder because the listing may sound overhyped, but pick up 2 bidders that wouldn't have bid otherwise because they think they can resubmit this and get an 8 or 8.5 then it was worth it to the seller. The seller believes (s)he can make more money by talking up the card than by taking the chance and resubmitting it because (s)he knows that it will likely come back with the same grade and even if it does come back an 8, maybe the card is only worth $10 for the bumped 1/2 grade.
That being said, it's a pet peeve of mine, but also, to be honest, I've never not bid on something I wanted because it was worded like this.
Currently Buying: 2004 Tommie Harris SPX Printing Plate (White Whale will pay top $$$) 1994 SP Football Die Cuts PSA 10s
Ya know... maybe it's just me, but why do people insist on using that stupid shipping calc. to get the shipping costs? $7.00 to ship ONE card priority? Did he put in that the card weighs 7 pounds, and will require $400 worth of insurance? (Sorry, had to rant.)

Further, the $7.05 merely pays for S & H. Insurance is required and will be even more. He'll probably charge $2.50 per $100.....
