Any Coins You're Aware of that have Doubled in Value?

Any coins you're aware of that have almost doubled in the last few months?

The Goodacre Sacagawea comes to mind. Also high grade Bust halves (with the "look").

Any others?

Last few months, probably not...but in the last year or so, a LOT of the Lincoln cent varieties, especially those that PCGS recognizes, are gaining a lot of value.

  • AU55 and up Bust Halves with "the look" preferably graded by PCGS (and then ICG, ANACS, and NGC in that order). Yes, believe it or not, ICG's AU Bust Halves with "the look" are pretty well accepted.

Clad dime rolls appear to be on a tear but I don't think the CDN has recognized it yet.

It may be just easier to price these higher for retail since there doesn't seem to be very much more wholesale activity.

Do I ever. That stupid 1955DD Lincoln Cent was a coin I always needed to complete any of my sets. I have 10 sets almost all completed except for that dumb coin. Even the 72DD was only a hundred or so a year ago. However, at coin shows lately the 55DD has gone from about $600 to $700 a year ago to well over $1,400 for the same condition. And actually one dealer was asking $1,600 but said if I was really interested he would knock off about $50. these are only AU type coins. And the 22 without a D is also sky rocketing in value. I bought one in VF-20 several years ago for $120 and look at it now. I think ever since coppercoins came out with his books on Lincolns, the prices jumped up substantially. Thanks alot there Chuck.

  • my 78 7tf rev 78 bought for under 63 money raw- now sits in a 65 holder- I think that has kind of 'doubled' the value margin a tad.

The 1899-P Morgan Dollar comes to mind. In all grades (I'm pretty sure), prices have more than doubled in the past several months. At least in MS63, within the last year, prices have gone from $110 +/- ask to $300 +/- ask.

My raw VF+ 1903-S Micro-S Morgan went from being a $300 purchase in November, to a VF35 at PCGS in December. I figure it at least quadrupled in value as a result.

Then there there was a group of nineteen XF/AU 1878 8TF Morgans I bought in January that contained... um... a few surprises. image

Results from PCGS won't be in until March, but let's just say I'm not going to get hurt in the deal.
    When in doubt, don't.

Take any modern uncicrulated coin that is MS68 or above and you have a lot more than double the initial face value. For the purposes of this thread dealing with the last couple of months, any 2006 coin that fits this descriptions. image
