When is enough enough?

I started looking into the US 20 cent piece and became interested in it as America's largest denomination fully decimal and metric coin. That led me to researching the international coinage movement of the 1860's and 1870's, which, in turn, led me to researching the Latin Monetary Union, which led to me to researching the German Munzverein and other monetary unions. To make sense of this I will need to look into German unification and Prussian hegemony for the first time since high school.

It's hard to stop. When is enough research enough?

    When is enough research enough?

For a well respected scholar like you? Never, provided that you don't buy all these coins in order to help your research. image

  • There is never an end.

My guess is that there are several members of this forum that have encountered the same sort of problem. Any collector who is really interested in his collection will eventually get hooked on finding out information about what he collects. Then it will lead to wanting more information on related subjects.

I started a Norwegian & Danish type set, found a piece of Swedish Plate Money from the Nicobar shipwreck, got interested in the ship wreck, then wanted more information about how and why the plates were made. That led to Russian Plate Money, and on to Russian Copper. I hope there will never be an end.

    When you die.

edited to add: I always have the same problem for my primary interest. In fact, I wrote an article followed within a couple of years by a second because I tripped over a couple of killer photos and some additional, clarifying info. As said elsewhere, hope that it never ends because that's the fun for me.....

I'm afraid you may be right.

How about if I get me an attitude and yell, "Woman-- will you keep that little critter quiet! I'm trying to do me some research!" image
