I remember telling my NCOIC when I was stationed in St. Louis in 1985 that the vintage was getting too high and I wouldn't sink that kind of dough into it.

What the hell did I know!

We were both doing Topps sets.

    Thanks for sharing Yank!

  • Does anybody remember "Card Prices Update"? It was a monthly that preceded Beckett and seemed to be the standard between about 1980-1984, at least in the card collecting circles I was in. I believe the owner got sued by Beckett and shortly thereafter Beckett launched its monthly. I don't remember all the details, but it seems like there was some kind of copyright infringement going on.

Ahhh the good ole "CPU" ... I used to have a subscription and loved to see what cards had a "+" or " - " next to them each month!

  • Anybody remember Marshall Oreck??? I bought a collection in the 80s and the seller gave me the Marshall Oreck catalog. It had 52 Topps high #s for a $1 each, regardless if common or star. It also said when available. So, 52 highs (before the Rosen find) were considered rarer than most.

It was 8 1/2 x 11 black and white gloss paged catalog. To the best of memory it was about 20 pages long. I wish I had kept it. Ron Hart from Syracuse got it from me in 1993 (when I sold out my inventory).
  • Here's another card catalog from a while back:

I think its funny for the 57 set how they list MINT and VG. Thats it. And MINT for the set is only 22% more than the VG.

I would pay 785 for the MINT set, who's sellin?

I found this Current Card Prices Vol. 1, No. 1 in my basement. The price card starts showing Mint prices for sets starting in 1972.
    The good old days prices.
