Today's Arrivals - Jan. 23, 2006.

The postman was good to me today... so of course I had to post pics. image

Great Britain 1 Penny, 1855 OT (mislabeled as PT). NGC MS64 BN. I'm baffled as to why NGC doesn't consider this RB instead of BN...

Jamaica Farthing, 1894. PCGS MS65. To quote Guinness: Brilliant!

Canada 1 Penny Token, 1857. ANACS EF40. ANACS being very conservative, IMO. Very attractive surfaces!

NGC has been very stingy with the RB designation lately as compared to a few years ago. At least that has been my obvervation.

Nice coins! I would tend to agree with you about the 1857 penny token - ANACS was tough on it.

EF40 on that Upper Canada token?? No way, that's at least an AU50 and possibly an AU55.

I like that Canadian token as an EF. Without it in hand to check the lustre it's too hard to make the call.

The weakness of the flag on the reverse, the flatness of the fruit and the right horn could be strike or wear, no way to tell without the token in hand.

As an EF it is strong for the grade! image

I really like the other two coins also. image

    Dan,
You mind if I post the Canadian token on the Canadian Coin Reference Site and ask their opinion on the grade?

Nice Canadian token. Looks AU50 to me with soft strike detail in the flag. The high points on the obv are St Georges calf, helmet and chest and they look very strong in the pic. One point, these tokens are usually very well struck so ANACS may have deducted points for the weakness of the flag. Nice chocolate color, too. How's the lustre?

I too think the token is AU.

But I simply can't adequately express my appreciation for that Jamaican farthing.

Scary thing is that NEN actually had a pair of these graded the same... in retrospect I wish had picked up both of them, as I think this is the type of quality where you can just throw Krause away. Not like it would have broken the bank either... it was a whopping $87. image

The experts on the CCRS think the coin is AU50 with some saying AU55.
