Post your numismatic Christmas gifts.

My Mother-in-law sent me a bunch of world coins as gifts this year.

The sampling:

Full 1977 Hungarian UNC set
All three 1952 BU/UNC Coins from Laos
½ Peshewa from Ghana, 1967
BU Reunion Island Franc 1964
1963 5 and 1969 10 Grozy from Poland, both UNC/BU
1953 50 Para, 1965 Dinar and 1953 2 Dinara from Yugoslavia, all BU

5 Cruzeiro banknote from Brazil

Nothing fancy or rare, but nonetheless very thoughtful of her! image

I got a three-piece set of loupes from my wife, and a professional-grade rock tumbler for my crusty detector finds. image

I previously had a rock tumbler but it was a plastic "toy" version. Now I have a real one. It should come in handy not only for dug stuff but maybe some of those uncleaned ancient coin lots, too. I plan to try sawdust as a tumbling medium rather than the coarse grit. I have seen folks do some amazing coin cleaning with crushed pecan shells in a tumbler. One guy showed me a modern Mexican peso that I would've sworn was a proof if I didn't know better. It looked like a gosh-honest proof coin instead of a whizzed or overpolished piece.

The wife and I boycotted Christmas gift exchange this year due to the ever growing commercialism. This didn't affect us buying something for ourselves though. A few gifts to myself.... image

My wife and myself didn't give each other gifts this year. Instead, we plan on attending the ANA show in Atlanta.

I got two coins from my kiddos (okay the husband surely did the shopping!!). One a Falkland Islands silver commerative and another silver commemerative from Tokelau--which I'd never even heard of. The latter is surely what came in the package from Danglen and addressed to my husband!

But of course I bought myself something...I can't believe I bought this and from pandaamerica no less..100,000 yen proof. It was the best price I've ever seen for one of these, including one I almost bit on in Japan. They had it listed for only a few more dollars than the far more common uncirulated one... a real deal. At pandaamerica!!! Satootoko gave it a pass, so I had to get it. I knew I'd kick myself later if I didn't and it got sold. Maybe it was really just an early birthday present. I really meant to get a nice 10 or 20 yen from NEN or Steinbergs or Clark Smith as my next big present...but oh well. Maybe next time.
