1893 Sovereign Set ( Lotsa Bad Pics!)

Been working on this sub-set for a little while, finally completed it, barring an upgrade or two.
1893 is one of those interesting years along with 1887 that many different types of sovereign were issued in the one year.

1893S Veiled Head

(Really need to re-image this one, what was I thinking?)

There is a Sydney Proof also but budgetry constraints mean it is not included.

What a great idea for a set!
How many minted? How many thought to exist? How much?

The Sydney 1893 proofs are extremely rare with about 6 known, with half of those by David Gee.
The last one that sold had a hammer price of AUD$86,0000 (Approx $65k US)
Gee got hold of many of the original dies for Australian Proofs he then repaired and manufactured with them during the 60's before being jailed.
As a result of Gee, all dies in Australia are now totally destroyed once used.
Saw one of his forgeries sold as a genuine piece earlier this year. (NGC had graded it.) Luckily for the buyer, these are as keenly sought as the originals here.
Those interested in poetic justice, Gee lost most of his fingers to bolt cutters whilst inside.
As a result of Gee, all dies in Australia are now totally destroyed once used.
That's sad. I'd love to own a set of dies just for their historical interest.

I'm so out of touch with gold coinage that I didn't realize Jubilee heads were struck in 1893, albeit not selling for the premiums that the silver 3d and 6d go for.
...
Beautiful set, the London proof is truly flawless.
