Actually, I think it was one collector and the wife of one collector. I'm sure spinaker could give you more information, but then again, he might not remember. image

These dies were not likely to have been engraved by a Tower Mint engraver. It is likely that is a rare surviving set of 16th century forger's dies in an extraordinary state of preservation.

I wonder when they were made. image

It's hard to argue against their being a set of forger's dies, but perhaps they could be some kind of rejected pattern dies. It is amazing that they have survived.

We're thinking on the same lines. They could have been made in 1890 for all we know, iron rusts, where could they have been all this time, they can't have been buried otherwise they wouldn't look like that.

Even if they were made in the 1890's, I'm sure you could recoup your investment by striking counterfeits and selling them on eBay. image

As long as the dies don't crack!!! I'd just turn it over to the Gallery Mint, and let them contract some Arkansas mountain boy to pound them out.

You're doing it all wrong it should be solid 22ct gold plated coins with colourised shield and inset diamonds on the crown. Of course you can't forget the certificate of authenticity, gold gilt edges with a wax seal for a 'contemporary' look, perhaps other free gifts with it, such as ripping a page out of a totally unrelated 15th century psalter book, having it framed and don't forget a reproduction of a portrait of her majesty to go with that, then you could happily charge a mere $9000.95 for the set.

We're getting some really great marketing ideas. I especially like Sylvestius' submission. image

Syl, the 22ct. "plate" really cheapens this whole deal. It makes me feel dirty even thinking of promoting such as this.image

The psalter and wax seal sound good though.image
