Your experience with Stack's auctions & buying their raw coins ?

Hi All
I'd love to hear of your experience with buying RAW coins from Stack's auctions & then having them slabbed at PCGS or NGC.
Did the Stack's descriptions & assigned grades stand the test of third party grading ?
Were you delighted, or disappointed ?
What were your experiences ?
Thanks !

  • Stacks is a good house, but I always have a question about non slabbed coin sales. It seems simple enough to get them TPG'd.

Always have a dealer evaluate the coins in person and represent you at bidding. It's worth it.
  • Stacks is not a fan of slabbed coins period. If they offer any at
all they usually put their opinion of the grade first and have the
slabbed grade at the end of the description.

Stacks is a dinosaur in the coin industry. They need to keep up with the times.

I bought one coin from them...it was several years ago and the value of the coin has increased, so I am not complaining. But for the record, it was graded AU58.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

  • How does Stacks have access to so many uncertified coins?
  • As to "access" to raw coins, I am told that Stacks sometimes cracks slabbed coins to auction raw. If you can grade or have a dealer rep, you can do well at Stacks I am told.
