MtG: Is there a market for graded AQ cards?

I recently picked up alot of AQ cards and boosters from Len to try and build a AQ set. There are multiples of alot of cards that will probably grade psa 9 with a some 10's here and there.

My question is whether I shold grade the extras and offer them up for sale on ebay? For example, Do yall think there is a market for a graded PSA 9 Dragon Engine ?

If so what do you think a psa 9 common is worth? Uncommon?

  • I would defintly throw down money for Antiquities 10's but i think literally 8's would be worthless and 9's would get book value.

    my opinion....

but still grade them b/c i want the 10's image

  • Yes i think like Rudy :
Alpha PSA 7 = no worth the grading fees.
Beta PSA 8 = no worth the grading fees.
Unlimited PSA 9 no worth the grading fees .
arabian psa 9 now they sell for more than ungraded but i think it won t last.

I think for legend and antiquities they won t sell much if it s not PSA 10.

But in other hand. Lot of poeple want graded set so if you are the first to grade them they will sell for more.
I think right now if you sell and antiquities set PSA 8-9 It will sell for more than ungraded.
But in a few month i don t think it will worth it.

  • Hey Steven,

I have to agree with Rudy - as a collector of graded Antiquities myself, I can tell you that 10's are the ONLY way to go. There is too much product out there to be graded to really put much value in a 9, and the collectors base is very small as well. Unless the card has a raw value greater than the cost of submission, I wouldn't even bother sending it in unless it had a lock on a 10. I have LOTS of AN, AQ, and LG that would rate a 9 that I haven't sent in for that very reason. Pick out your best stuff and submit - I doubt you can go wrong with 10's image

  • Hey Bastien,

Yep, I think your assessments are right:

8's only for Alpha rares and big value cards (over $100)
9's only for Alpha commons and uncommons, and Beta rares and good uncommons
    10's for everything else

Long term this is how I see things. As you stated, if you are the first to be listing you will do OK, but over time the market will move this way. There really is too much out there to be graded (outside of Alpha and some Beta) and too few collectors for the values of the lower end stuff to hold up. Just my opinion image

If you got them graded I'd be interested in buying single versions of the 9's at "cost" + grading fee if you get them done. i.e. I'd buy 1 of any particular card at a 9, not multiple copies.

.... where cost is a random variable to be agreed. :-) Probably based on average transaction price on ebay over the last 3 transaction or something like that.

I'd quite like to built a set of AN/AQ/LG 9's. Mostly because I'm not desparately keen to make the sets in 10's, but would like a nice set non-the-less.

If you do decide to go ahead, that at least gets you some insurance against the cards not being 10's. I'd probably want to a agree prices/$ commitment in advance though, as my pockets are not limitless...

You'd still be stuck though if they came out as 8's.
