Player Collectors: do you collect Broders cards?

I'm looking through my Will Clark binder and came across a bunch of "Broder" and other unlicensed cards from the late 80s and early 90s. I know that many collectors don't consider these "real" cards and say they have no value. While I don't disagree in theory, some of them are incredibly difficult to find. While I haven't paid a lot of money for any of them, I'm sure I've paid eight or nine bucks for some of the more difficult Will Clarks. I'm curious if any other collectors of late 80s star players are searching out Broder cards.

They might not be "valuable" in the sense that we normally use. They are, however, an interesting part of the hobby from that era, and they can be quite difficult to find.

Here are a few of my Broder Will Clarks. You probably remember these cards if you went to any baseball card show from about 1989-1991. The first was actually issued in 1986, one of the few Will Clark items issued that year. I'm pretty sure that's the one that cost me the most, probably about nine bucks several years ago.

I agree that people used to run scared from Broder cards. I also used to like them alot. Not the other ones that everyone called Broder but the actual Broder series. I still have a few in my collection. They bring back some memories!

Yeah, I got a bunch of the Clemens, Boggs and Jim Rice from most of the years they were available. I really like them and I think they look great compared to some of the legitimate issues of the time. Granted, they'll never be worth anything, but they're a nice addition to any individual player collection.

I collect the Gary Carter and Darryl Strawberry Broders. I agree they have no real value, but I like them.

  • Would PSA grade Broder-type cards?? There's probably a guideline someplace...

    Good for you.
  • maybe they would be good for Auto's from the players. That way you aren't ruining a "real" card.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

I collected them in the day. Steve Yzerman Broders have always resided within my collection of his.
