Ever Think NFL Games Might Be Fixed?

As a former degenerate gambler, I know everyone who bets the games have had this thought. Hell, back in the day, I used to think that NFL teams were talking about me in the huddle, but today's Chargers-Jets game got the old paranoid thought-process going again.

Chargers favored by 6 and rolling. LT loping into the endzone for four TDs with the Jets not even getting a glove on him and then suddenly Vinny is benched, and the Jets climb back into the game. All of a sudden, with the Chargers leading by only 5 now, Tomlinson develops a severe case of rubber-leg, stumbling and falling twice without being touched and with a totally open field in front of him.

I didn't bet this game, but if I had, I would've surely put my foot through the television screen..........and it got me to thinking again.....how difficult would it be for a player or two to get together for a little point-shaving party?

Now I see the Giants, leading by 10 and favored by 11 are starting to lay down for the 49ers......curious, aint' it?

  • Honestly, I don't think that any pro-sports are fixed. (I'm not so sure about boxing though.)

Double digit spreads are nearly always a bad bet.

The players make way too much money to ever risk throwing their careers away over trying to make more money...the lowest rookie salary is over 200 thousand a year.

Vinny wasn't benched, he got hurt...and it could be that the chargers prepared all week for vinny, then having a completely different style of QB would disrupt their defense game plan. Look at how successful Schaub was when he came in for Vick a few weeks back.
  • I think the NFL officials can be bought and often are. They're paid so little and make such terrible calls on a routine basis that I've conclued they're on the take image

Not fixed. I was just reading something the other day on the uncanny effectiveness of certain markets (e.g. sports books) at predicting outcomes.

Of course, when I was a degenerate gambler it sure as hell looked like every third player in the league was on the take.

  • It just looks fixed because shotty is the worst game manager ever. He almost cost the chargers another game. This is like 4 weeks in a row that he has either cost them or almost cost them.

No, but I've lost my shorts at the track.

  • Ive thought that about major league umpires from time to time too (that they were on the take). I always keep thinking that some expose is going to come out soon, but I guess they have kept any such thing (if any) under wraps. Talk about destroying the integrity of the game.

I think there is so much scrutiny with slo mo instant replay and 24 hour sports that any 'fixing' would be uncovered immediately.

Ax- fixing can occur. It is not the obvious, but the unobvious where it takes place. Like the move that wasn't made, the player that was not removed or not inserted, or apparent human error by the guy that drops the pass, misses the shot or swings through the pitch. On topic, I would wager with you that it still takes place to a minor degree. Of course, I can't proove it !!! Pete Rose ?

This has got to be one of the most extreme cases of good players meeting up with BAD coaching in recent memory... Just Say No (to Marty-ball) imageimageimageimageimage

Pete Rose bet on baseball, he wasn't fixing games, and it was never proven he bet on his own games or fixed the games he managed in.

  • ax here is a perfect example(i no way believe it is a fix, because any charger follower will tell you this is just how shotty does things because he is terrible at finishing games)

SD this weekend was -6 1/2

They were up by 8 with about 10 mins to go. They get stoped on the 1 inch line on the goal about to score. LT has had 4 tds in the game already. Instead of going for it, and making bollinger go 99 yards for a score they decide to kick it. Make its good up 11. NYJ score and now sd is not covering. SD attempts to run clock out with 6 mins left. Fumbles nyj recover get down to gl. get stopped on 3 yard line game over. NYJ cover and 92% of gamblers lose on SD.

Axtell - you are a master of the unobvious. Are you Pete Rose's lawyer. Get with it . You can't interpret what I said? I didn't realize you were ignorant as well as opinionated.
