I lost the "Holy Grail"...Sad.

I'm bummed. I got stupid and the other guy got more stupid and I lost an item I've waited for for a loooooooong time. I've searched newspapers, done google-searches, check eBay nightly and thought I had found "The Bomb".
The Holiest
I couldn't use my sniper as I had to know what this other "nut" was thinking price-wise. For instance, at the outset $350 seemed like a lock.
When I saw his back-to-back bids I got concerned he was like me...a zealot. Sadly, I was correct. I crept up just to see what kind of compulsive cat I was dealing with and, alas, the battle was on. I just couldn't justify the purchase in the end.
My journey continues.
I would just whack a M&N 1980 Fisk jersey, but don't want the #72 on it--nor the name. I want the jersey to be annonymous. This was the bomb.
Don't you hate it when you find the bomb and ONE...just ONE other person does, too? If there were 11 guys pounding it out over $300 I wouldn't feel so bad. It's the fact that if this ONE guy was away from his computer this week, I'd be stylin'...such is the game.

That's a good idea. I'm told there will still be markings, however. Also, if you can tell me where I can find one that wasn't made to be worn as a dress by a rap artist (XXXL or even 6X) that would be helpful. The stores I found on-line are fresh out of Size 48 (XL). If I were 7'3" and 450 lbs..or a rap artist--I'd be in business...I'm neither.

I actually spelled you with an "a". I meant Allen. No disrespect meant.

If you remove the lettering from a jersey, I would think there would be holes where the stitching used to be...

I don't have a 'holy grail' but that's too bad - sorry to hear this.
But, ya know - with ebay - if you wait another will come.
I never like those odd uni's - or the ones that looked liked softball uni's.
Why is this your 'holy grail'? I'm curious.
What might have been a great purchase for me that I let get away was a pristine 52T pack that the BBCKid had for sale in the 1700$ range years ago - today? 10 grand?
Good luck on your quest

I sincerely feel bad for you as I can relate to a few lost items in a similar fashion too, probably not real "Holy Grail" type of things, but truly important to me.
However, like Stone193 just prior, I am very curious as to the attachment to a 77 nameless jersey.
I am a big long-time Chisox fan and must say I feel those and even the 1983 era ones are among the most un-attractive uniforms the Sox used. 73 Red pin stripes, any Sox pin stipe in fact either Navy Blue or Black are very nice, the current style is quite sharp too. How about the absense of a player associated from the era via no name sewed on ??
Our perceptions of "beauty and/or importance" are all different and anyone is certainly entitled to enjoy whatever they like. Absolutely no "pokeing-fun" is intended whatsoever. I have read of your posts before and know you are a passionate collector, and would be quite interested in hearing your views and experiences regarding your fondness for this style and the lack of player name as well, if you choose to share them.
The 1977 Southside Hitmen are my favorite team of all time. It's just the era and the memories and the fabulous ballpark, etc.
I remember being at Comiskey Park with my Dad (a huge Cub Fan) and him explaining this "other league" to me. I was fascinated. I was an absolute expert on the NL for my age, but the AL was mysterious. This was the team that was on UHF (WSNS-TV Channel 44 in Chicago). The picture was often "snowy" and they played loud organ music and the crowd was huge and loud (yes, there was a time where the Sox had louder fans and filled the seats as well as the come-lately Cubbies).
My Dad pointed out Freddie Patek and said, "That's the shortest player in the game today." "That's Big John Mayberry. He can hit 'em a mile."
Almost as if scripted in Hollywood, Mayberry launched one into the upper tank in right field and I was stunned. My Dad knows everything
I thought. One thing is for sure, I really dig this league. Then there was a play at the plate where Amos Otis plowed into Jim Essian. It happened right in front of us--it seemed. Otis let out a yell and hit Essian. I thought Essian was dead at first. He calmly got up, held the ball up for the umpire and rolled it backhand toward the mound. As Francisco Barrios and Essian made their way back to the dugout Essian put his arm around Barrios and they laughed. What a TOUGH guy Essian is, I thought. I love him! He's the man!!! Right then, this group of ordinary looking guys with the odd-looking uniforms just stole my imagination. I was absolutely hooked.
I have grown to love those jersey's that Mrs. V put together and a nameless one that was authentic put me "on the bench" with that ballclub.
Bobby Molinaro, Mike Squires, Jim Morrison would come a little later on but it was Soderholm, Roadrunner Garr, Orta, Chester Earl, Lamar "Hitman" Johnson, Richie Zisk (Played only one season--but he's forever a White Sox to me)...what a club!
Anyway, losing the jersey is hurting more tonight than earlier today. I should've just broke the bank, but that lunatic probably bid 1000 bucks on it. I am confident his attachment to such an item is more fleeting and whimsical given the obvious events on the field recently, perhaps he'll tire of it or realize he spent a boat-load of cash on a really ugly jersey Either way, I really appreciate that pats on the shoulder and the help. If any of you guys can find a M&N 1977-1980 White w/ Blue collar jersey in size 48 just shoot me an email and I will forever be your buddy!
Best,
dgf
Keep looking - I'm confident that you'll come across one again on ebay.
Thanx for the interesting account of your 'holy grail' - well done.

He ALWAYS starts the bidding at $5.99, and usually you can pick-up an item at the opening bid to around $10 tops! I've bought a bunch of stuff from him, mostly ok, but once in a while, I'm dissapointed, but for 6 bucks, I'll "just toss it", considering all the really nice things that I've received. I'm quite sure I've seen "vintage white sox" tops for sale. But put him "on your radar screen".
You just may luck out with your quest for that "holier than thou grail"!
Here's some recent stuff from him (he's located in that large town of Independence, Ohio, LOL!):
Vintage 1980's GREEN BAY PACKERS Sweater
CINCINNATI stitched button down Jersey
CLEVELAND BARONS Hockey stitched HOODIE
I just won this Vintage Polo Hooded Jacket. For 10 bucks I'll have a great $150 jacket to keep me warm for winter bass fishing here in Florida.
(It can get really cold here in the winter, maybe even as low as 60 degrees, LOL! No really! It can get cold on some of those winter fishing mornings!)

edit: This is the kind of seller that just may surprise you and come up with what your looking for, and without the "bidding competition", as he is not really a "vintage sports tops" dealer!
