Whats up with the modern canadian registry sets? Are they changing?

Just went to enter some new arrivals from PCGS, and the sets are All jumbledup. Especially the dollars. What gives? Maybe to much confusion about PR, PL, SP & MS I suppose? Any one know what the rearrangements are heading for? Personally, I would like to see an all loon set as well as mint set for each year. image

  • I see what you mean, sets truncated, coins missing, a right mess!
It is impossible to make any sense out of the sets I have looked at.

    Edited:
I have just checked the Great Britain Registry : Same result TOTAL MESS

TH.........Any idea of what they are doing? You said it......"What a mess". Just when I thought I had a couple of sets completed..............BAM. We'll have to see what shakes out.
  • Canadian Nickels seem ok.

    What seems to be changing?
  • Check out the modern dollars, coins have vanished, front page gives a total when you look at a set only a fraction show.Same with 50c Proof commems and others.

  • Yup, Canadian nickels are screwd up too. I'd guess that it's just a database thing, and not some strange update.

Hopefully they are fixing some of the mistakes in the dollar sets plus making the loonies a separate set. Would also like to see a PL set for twonies as I noticed what twonie sets out there are also jumbled up at present.

As to the British registry ... hopefully they are finally getting around to adding in non gold type sets by soverign and decimal sets. The Euro sets are three years behind, so it is about time they got some serious updates.

Are there supposed to be sets for special issue one and two dollar coins? For example, are the sterling silver and 22k twoonies part of any set? How about the Queen Mum dollar?

I doubt these would ever be included in the set registry considering PCGS is having enough problems as it is figuring out what coins should and should not be included in smoe of the registry sets that currently exist.

Queen Mum is in the Comm. Dollar Set (Both PR & MS), And as far as I know, the special issue loon / twoon are not part of either (any) of the loonie or twoonie sets.

We'll see how they figure it out.

Unless they cut out these special strikes, they will have way too many coins in the sets. For example, the 2005 silver dollar comes in BU, proof, proof with gold overlay on the flag, and proof with "enamel effect." That gives us four different versions of the same type, and then we have the aureate Puffin, regular loon, and perhaps a special issue silver dollar with a different design.

Would anyone be interested in a separate registry for "special edition" dollars?

The Queen Mum is the most famous because of its low mintage, but the RCM usually puts one out per year.

For example, in 1999 the Perez Ship was the standard silver dollar, and the Year of Older Persons was the special issue dollar.

There aren't many coins in this category right now, but the RCM is faithfully marketing a new one every year.

Personally, I would have to say no; however, if there are enough people who would want such a set then I would say go for it ...

In a way it would also be interesting to see a modern SP set for the various Loon Dollar varieties in case there were enough people interested.

So far there would be how many in that set?

There is the duck "loonie" of 2004 and the Tufted Puffin of 2005. Anything else?

I'd have to double check, but I believe it would also include the 1997 Flying Loon ...

OK, here are the regular and special issue numismatic dollars the RCM has minted since 1997:

Regular issue silver dollars in both BU and PF:

    1997 Hockey
    1998 RCMP
    1999 Perez
    2000 Voyage of Discovery
    2001 National Ballet
    2002 Elizabeth II Accession
    2003 Cobalt Strike
    2004 Ile St Croix
    2005 Flag

    Special issue silver dollars:

    1997 Flying Loon
    1998 (none issued)
    1999 Older Persons
    2000 (none issued)
2001 90th Anniversary of Silver Dollar
    2002 Queen Mum
2002 Elizabeth II Accession (gold plated [in Special Edition Proof Set only])
2003 Coronation (in Special Edition Proof Set only)
2004 Flag (with gold accents [in proof set only])
    2004 Flag (with enamel effect)

Special issue 26.5 mm dollars (nickel-bronze unless otherwise noted)
1997 Flying Loon SP (from SP set)
1997 Flying Loon BU (in "Oh Canada" sets only)
2002 Family of Loons (from SP set)
    2002 Centre Ice Loon PR
2004 Canada Goose (from SP set)
2004 Elusive Loon PR (from coin & stamp set)
2004 Olympic Loon PR (in silver)
    2004 Olympic Loon BU
2005 Tufted Puffin SP (from SP set)

Cicrulation dollars would add quite a few more to the sets. Did I miss any?

  • The Canadian nickel sets appear to be back in order, with no changes. How about the other sets that were messed up?
  • Still not quite right, coins seem to be back but population numbers are missing ( Only checked Euro, British Gold and some Canadian sets so far! ).
