Wow, nice Gretzky rookie (best I've seen)

  • I think it might go for $4750. image
That is the most freakingest blazing blue and picture clarity I've ever seen for that RC.
  • This kills me he sells a $4750 card and can't spring the few cents for a supersized pic.

Guess there are many possible reasons for the card being sold so quickly after its most recent purchase, but my pessimistic side says it's because it isn't what it's cracked up to be. And I'm generally not into PSA numerology, but my most blatantly overgraded card is an 07XXXXXX card, so I'm always a little skeptical when I see cards with such cert numbers.

    an 07XXXXXX card? That's a zero, not a letter o.

Looks like a zero to me. Yawie99, is that the numer of the grader that graded the card? Take it you had issues with them?

It's interesting to note that there were two PSA 9 Gretzky OPC rookies in Superior's most recent auction. The eBayer who is currently selling one PSA 9 Gretzky from Superior's auction also sold the other one on eBay not too long ago Gretzky Round 1 It looks like the first sale went through OK, but it's weird imho that this person would have bought both PSA 9's. When the first one was up I asked for a scan of the back of the card, which I received, and asked why this card was being sold for a loss so quickly after being purchased. The seller told me that he bought the PSA 10 Gretzky rookie.

Wow. SMR is over 60K for that one. I'd have to mortgage my house for that.

I believe it went for $53,000.

Good remembory, shag. I had forgotten about that and wasn't able to connect the dots the way you did. That explanation sounds reasonable, though I also have to question the sanity of whoever bought the 10. Label whore!

As for the 07XXXXXX issue, I have two cards that start with that and one of them is a low-end 6 that somehow made it into a PSA 7 holder:

The upper right corner is rather blunted. I've seriously thought about resubmitting the card just so it can have the appropriate grade. Anyway, I'm not exactly sure what the numbers mean, but I guess it has something to do with who graded the card and when. Like I said, I try to judge a card on its own merits and generally won't shun cards based on their numbers or label font or whatever, but that Ross kinda taints my view of 07- cards. It's a nice card, don't get me wrong, and given the current market I think I did well to purchase it, but it's just not a 7.
