Appreciate it oldshep! This coin is graded PR69 Specimen by ANACS. What does the "Specimen" Designation mean for Canadian Coins?

Canada didn't produce proof coins until 1982. Before that they produce special coins mainly for collectors. They coins received special handling and were issued in their own case. These are the 'specimen coins'.

The dollar you won is called a 'cased dollar' and were issued in a black case with red felt lining. Non silver dollars has blue felt lining.

ANACS PR69 Specimen, a very high grade for ANACS by the way, is really a SP69. There are no Proof 1971 Dollars! Is it an older slab? I think ANACS may called the SP6x now but I'm not sure.

If you like the toning on these dollars, try to find a 1972. They usually have the nicest toning off all the dates.

The 1971 to 1973 cased silver dollars developed great toning if store in the right environment. I don't know how many SP69's are out there, but I doubt there are many. Nice one!
