Just got my first one yesterday and wanted to thank Stone for the heads up on that one. Did any notice a certain add in there for an auction, boy there were a ton of GEM graded cards in that auction, what is up with that?

  • I received my copy today. Havn't read it yet but when I saw it in the mailbox I said YES!.
To be honest since I started posting over here I look forward to reading these threads and looking at the psa auctions as much as the coins. No one warned me this was habbit forming. Joe

    You guys are very welcome!

It was definitely my pleasure - as I had said - when I asked for the complimentary subs - they limited it to 50 and by the verbal response I got on the original thread...I figured there were going to be plenty left over.

Well, many jumped on it and stayed anonymous? They had and honored over 90!

I know some don't like/want the pub - but it's the closest thing left to my roots in collecting. Many of the mags have since gone by the wayside.

  • I sent them an e-mail, but no response.

Maybe mine is on the way.

No problem - I didn't think anyone was still up.

I got hung up reading a couple of lengthy posts over at net54.

I just lost about 70 extra synapses and about an hour and half of my life!

  • I am an early riser.

Can't seem to sleep past 4 or 5 AM on the weekends.

Moved from EDT to CDT two weeks ago. Forgot that South FL and the FL Panhandle are in different zones. Maybe I'm still adjusting.

  • For what it's worth I did not receive a e-mail responce either . So I wasn't sure if I was in. When it showed I was happy.
Not the same publication as when i used to subscribe but I enjoyed it. I am sure it will generate some new subscriptions.
  • I would love some free issues also if I am not too late.

My email address is thesplendidsplinter@cox.net or what do u need from me

    Thanks

  • SoFLPhillyFan,

I recieved mine with no email confirmation. So it is probably on the way.

Thanks for the heads up Mike.

Unfortunately this was an offer over a weekend that I posted a few weeks back and had an expiration date attached.

If this goes over well, I will contact them again for another trial subscription offer. Keep an eye out!

I looked through my freebie this weekend and it seemed like 80% of the stuff was autographed material.

    Is that typical?

Ebay is a better source for purchasing. I read it for any announcements that I may miss somewhere's else and for the articles.

Ebay pretty much killed SCD as an advertising pub - they have pared way down in size. Having said that, many times I get great info that I have passed on here since only 20% max of the people here subscribe.

For less than a buck a week, it's still of value - most of the big auction houses include their catalogs in SCD, so if you are not on their mailing list - at least you will still get them.

No soup for me as of today's mail.......
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • I used to get SCD years ago. Didn't it once include a price guide? Maybe I'm thinking of Tuff Stuff.

    I got mine yesterday! Thanks!

I enjoyed the article about the guy who's been collecting for over 70 years. There was also an article with a "rogue" authenticator, and I thought I was plenty leery about purchasing autographs BEFORE reading this, but apparently there was more room to cringe! Yikes! I didn't like his comment about big submitters getting favorable grades, either.

Is it worth $1 a week? I'd say YES. Even though I know to filter out the autograph ads, and listings for non-PSA graded cards, I still find it nice to see what's out there WITHOUT having to wade through pages of auction listings.

And, sorry PSA, the articles in SCD completely blow away the fluff in the SMR (as I remember it). I hope that the writers Joe was looking for are as good or better than the ones who write for SCD.

Finally, are my eyes finally starting to go bad? There is a, what, ten page spread in the middle of the issue that requires a 10X loupe to read! That's bathroom reading for a YEAR!

I got mine the other day, I did enjoy the "rogue authetnicator" article...but that was about it. The thing is awfully big to have 3 stories in it. Lots of advertising, which in some ways is nice, just for pricing reference. I'll keep looking at my free issues for the next few weeks, but I have a feeling that'll be all that I do.

BTW, did anyone notice the blurb towards the end of the issue about the guy in Blaine, MN who had $300k worth of autographs and memorabilia stolen from his house? That's about 3 miles from me! I can't even begin to think who it is and I know or have met a lot of the big time collectors around here by doing various shows etc... I'm sure it's a guy that lives on the TPC since Blaine is an otherwise....eh...lets say, bottom rung city. image I can't imagine what $300k in auto's in a personal collection even looks like, let alone having that taken from me. I hope he gets his stuff back!

    Stone,
I did send an email to them the first night you had the original thread (I think I even posted on that thread after sending email). I'll give it another day or two, then I might contact you to see if you can "pull some strings".

    Thank,
    James

Just got my second one last night, good article on Colavito. Got to love that Mr. Mint add he has about his T205 and T206 find in the hills of West Virginia.
