Question on "buy it now"

Is there any way to see what the "buy it now" price of an auction was after a bid has been placed? I am watching an auction and am really curious as to what the seller had on it before the bid was placed. I did e-mail the seller but 75% of the time I ask a question about an auction they don't respond anyway. Thanks for any help.

    No.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

A somewhat related question: I've seen some auctions in which bids are placed and the auction proceeds, yet the BIN remains available as long as the bidding is below it. How do they do that? Whenever I use BIN, it disappears when the first bid is placed.

Only time I've seen it last with bids is if there was a reserve. If there isn't a reserve, the BIN is gone as soon as a bid is placed.

Well, Buy It Now doesn't seem too useful if the first guy with a minimum bid can make it go away. I guess you're supposed to set a high reserve if you want BIN to remain an option past the first few bids. Which puts more money in eBay's pocket with a larger listing fee. Hmm, ya think that's deliberate?

a seller should have a higher starting price so the buy it now does not automatically go away with a $1.00 bid. if the card normally goes for $100 the start price should be around there and the buy it now for $115 or something.

but yes, the buy it now does remain if the reserve price has not been met.

Hate to say it, but there have been a few times I've been interested in a card that had a bin that was too high and I put in the opening bid just to get rid of the bin, then sniped later and won it. Agree that if you have a bin put a reserve or a high min bid to protect the bin.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Or, if you are selling the same item and it has been getting more than someone elses BIN, you bid on it so their BIN goes away so it doesn't kill your auction.image
