I purchased this Prussian Thaler in the recent Kuenker (German) auction. 1775-A (Berlin mint). Features King Friedrich II, aka "Frederick the Great." I'm still working on the photography, which is still "hit or miss."

I've often wondered if the same phenomenon occurs in other countries that I see here in the U.S.: U.S. coins follow very regimented, strict pricing, and as a general rule universally sell close to grey sheet (i.e., you don't often find material selling for 50% or 75% off gray sheet), whereas non-U.S. coins tend to be pooh-poohed and frequently sell for 50% and higher discounts off catalog. I assume this is due to a larger market and demand in the host country for its coinage.
True elsewhere?

Kuenker usually grades very conservatively, and they called this one "vz+" (EF+). The last "vz" I received from them was actually fully mint state (now PCGS MS63) but I give this one "only" a strong AU55.

<< <i> Cool coin! Isn't that Friedrich, the composer king (Friedrich der Grosse, Koenig von Preussen) ?
Man, that's cool. The only Thaler I have is one of those 1780 restrikes
Thanks. Yup, Frederick the Great. And, the 1780 (Maria Theresa) Thaler restrikes are nice; I have one, too
That is a truly impressive coin, Preussen. Because the devices appear higher than the rim (and so unduly vulnerable to wear), my guess is that they are difficult to find so choice.
Congratulations on such an exciting addition to your collection!

Thanks. You are correct; there are virtually no raised rims to protect the devices. - Preussen
