New arrivals; please critique the photography.

These are in ANACS slabs, so that makes the photography a little tough.

I set the F-stop to maximum in order to get a better depth of field, and that seems to be helping. There seems to a bid of a reddish cast to the pix. I've got the White Balance set to auto. I think I need to experiment with the other presets and the custom WB settings...

    Not bad at all image
Keep playing with the white balance settings, and especially the lighting. Try different light sources, bulbs, etc. Slabs are tough to shoot and capture the proper "tone" or color.

I use a method of shooting the coins at an angle as described by "Darkhorse", an outstanding photographer and member here. Here's his original thread, but note that the pics aren't there anymore. The description is pretty easy to follow, however.

Good luck, and have fun image

2 more shots of the 1910A 3M piece. This one I used a single light source shining down onto the slab from directly in front, as opposed to two light sources, one at each side.

While the differences between this and the shots above are subtle, I think I like these better...

    Thoughts?

Those photos are so much better than the ones I take. I especially like your choices of coins image

If you mean crack them out of the slabs, nah... don't think so.

I appreciate the effort for the example, but I don't like it. It looks like the coins have a wire rim or something, which isn't the case. That's the problem with using the magic wand tool in Photoshop to create an area mask (or similar feature in other software). It ends up looking a little phoney.

The contrast is better, and I do use a darker background for raw coins like the one below.

(by the way, what is that white crap in the detail areas of the reverse? I don't want to try cleaning it in any way, but it detracts from an otherwise beautiful coin...)

It's not a crime and on the Darkside it is done on a regular basis, we are not plastic crazy over here and grades are recognized as subjective. For myself, I object to companies that undergrade coins and jail them in plastic.
