Scored some free cards...

Alot of the guys I work with know I collect cards. Every now and then a couple of guys tell me that they have some old cards from a long time ago that they stored away for later. They ask if I can take a look at them and see if there is anything good or not. Usually when they bring stuff in, I feel guilty telling them that these "old" cards they have(which are things like 1991 fleer or 1990 topps) is not a real gold mine. Well one day this guy brought in about 8 3-ring binders full of cards from the late 60s to late 70s. They were mostly commons but there were some stars. He also had an almost complete set of 1978 topps probably in EX cond. Also one of the books had a 1962 Mantle PSA 3 at best., 1969 Reggie Jackson rookie maybe a 4 or 5, a 1962 Lou Brock rookie maybe a 4. Anyhow a pretty nice collection for a non-active collector. After I looked through all of them and pulled out the cards he might want to place in secure holders, he gave me some cards for looking through them. He gave me 1974 Killebrew, a 1977 Reggie Jackson, a 1965 McCovey and a 1978 rose. Nothing higher than near mint, but still nice to add to my ungraded vintage collection. Imagine that, getting paid cards just for doing something I LOVE to do!!!!! Just thought I would share that.

That was a nice gift for looking at the cards. The guy was generous. Thanx for sharing.
I think "sharing" of your extra stuff, your time and your knowledge is part of what this hobby was originally about.
I'm not a revisionist/reactionary type but some things were kind of nicer in the days of Jefferson Burdick, Lionel Carter, to name a few.
