OK I am dumb!

Alright I just made a dumb mistake but in my eyes it is partially the sellers fault. I run across this alot but just noticed this after it was too late. I usually see it laugh and move on but here goes. This card is listed as NM with a crease! LOL well we all know a card with a crease is not NM and this is my problem. I bid on this card after looking at the scan where you can't see the crease and seeing the NM grade he gave. Somehow I completely skipped over where it says it has a crease. So now I'm screwed and at the mercy of the seller to cancel my bid or to have someone outbid me. I know, I know stupid on my part not to read the whole description but I still get tired of these ebay sellers and their bogus grades, I will give him credit though he did mention the crease unlike alot of other sellers.

    Can't you retract your bid?

  • You can only retract your bid within 1 hour of placing it if there is less than 12 hours left in the listing. I tried to retract after about an hour and 5 minutes. Story of my life. I bid on it and went around looking for more cards and clicked in my ebay to see what was ending soon I had bid on and noticed it said crease in the title and was stunned. image

I think you're stuck, for two reasons:

    1) You bid on the card, and the defect was described not only in the auction title but in the description as well.

    2) It's only 20 bucks.

The description isn't completely honest, but c'mon-- it's honest enough. Send the guy his twenty bucks and move on.

As pointed out, your not out that much. You would probably get most if not all your money back if you re-auction the card.

It's a hassle yes, but a very inexpensive lesson in the overall scheme of things.
  • Never said i wasn't going to pay. Just bringing up a point.

Agreed completely. I brought this up mostly for the sake of discussion about sellers bogus grades.

In all fairness to the bidder, the seller using "NM Crease" is an oxymoron and is deceptive. A seller should never use a term such as NM when there is a crease. That card even without the crease is not a NM card.
  • Right but it appears to be about exmt which would fit into my 53 set if it didn't have the crease. Thats the reason I bid. With the crease the card is worthless to me.

  • I think the thing that irks me the most is the fact that he says "conservative grading-see scans" NM is a conservative grade for a card with a crease that would be exmt without the crease?

Where exactly is the crease? could be a small one near a corner? or on the back? that card for 20.00 may still be a decent card.

    good luck.

    Good for you.
  • He says the crease runs from his left cheek to BOB so hardly small. Fortunately seller was helpful. Told me he didnt know how to cancel my bid but I wouldn't have to pay but then I walked him through cancelling the bid. He made more than $20 in the end and well I'm not stuck with a creased card. All is well.
