Congrats! I took a look at your set -- thanks for including pictures!

I looked at at least a couple dozen of the regular cards and there were no action shots -- just portraits. Is that true for the whole set, except for the IA cards of course?

  • Hoofhearted, there are a couple of action shots but mostly up close head shots like Jake Scott and Otis of the Chiefs. Some of the pictures used are the same as previous years only cropped. It's a cool set.

ArnyVee, yeah I will have to change my sig line, but it's been so long I don't remember how. I like the Fin logo you have, I live in Ohio and I am going to Marino's induction at the HOF. I was going to pay for his autograph but he is only going to sign certain HOF pics not jerseys or helmets. I guess he is under contract and he owns part of Field Of Dreams.

Thanks for the congrats guys I appreciate it. If I can help anyone on this set let me know. It is an awesome set.

    Thanks Again

To change the sig, just go to the top of this same page towards the right and click on 'profile'. Then, just do your updating in the signature box towards the bottom.

  • Congratulations! I'm at about 70% completion on this set so I know how difficult some of the cards can be. Although everyone talks about the limited release third series, the cards in the first two series are really the hardest. Since the third series could be ordered through the mail, there seem to be a lot of high grade third series even though the total number of third series is less.

What was the last card you were looking for? Do you plan to continue upgrading the set?

    Remo,

Thanks for the update. I graduated from h.s. in '72 and my head and...heart...weren't into card collecting at the time. I had a girlfriend and was getting ready to go into the Air Force to avoid the draft. I remember not liking the design of the '72 Topps baseball set but I don't ever remember seeing any of the '72T fb cards. Thanks for the tour!

  • I forgot to mention Rob Marcus (RobBob) thank you for your help also. We had an agreement not to bid against each other on certain cards, this probably saved me $1,000's. Sorry you had to sell your set Rob and thanks for the congrats.

Justthefacts, your right, that was my impression when I first started collecting this set, I tried to get all of the third series. So I missed some great deals on the common cards that I had to pay through the nose for later. My advice to anyone is to buy the commons first cheap and then buy packs for the third series. You can get quite a few 9's when you buy packs with any luck.

Arnyvee, I changed my sig, thanks for th assist.

Hoofhearted, In 72' I was 9 and I had to go cold turkey to get off of Topps bubble gum, I had a 3 to 4 pack a day habit. Every dime I earned mowing yards, bailing hay and delivering papers went to Topps football. When I went to the Army, my mom cleaned my room and sold four large boxes of football cards for $1 at a garage sale. I didn't find out until I got back from Germany four years later. I just started talking to her again last year! Just kidding but I was pissed for years about that.

gmoneystyles, that's an awesome link. I will have to use that sometime.

Congrats. I just sent you a regular email. You helped me out too. I bought about 10 cards from you for my set. I just got my first grades back yesterday for this set. I won't post them here and steal your thunder. Great job. I'm in 9th right now and I don't see my self catching you for a LONG time if ever.

Congrats again and have a beer for me! Thank you again for your help.

  • Congratulations on completing your 1972 Topps Football set! That is a great accomplishment, especially completing it in such a high grade. With the progress you've already made with your 1971 set, it seems that you will be finished with that one soon as well. Excellent collection!!
