Complete 1962 Topps Baseball Registry Set For Sale

Hi All;

Sorry to Spam the registry board with EBay stuff, but this is probably pertinent. I have listed my complete '62 set on EBay tonight. It is #4 on the Basic Registry, but I am throwing in some variations. Would be #2 on the Master registry with 6 or 7 more variations. The Buy It Now price is about 120% of SMR - we'll see if the thread on splitting up a set or selling it "en masse" is the way to go.

Decided not to put it on any of the Big auction houses, although the folks at Mastronet were very friendly.

Had a blast putting it together, but family (new baby girl) comes first. Will be selling a few other nice items soon as well, as we are hoping to buy a weekend cottage.

Thanks to all of the regulars - I learned a lot (even though I don't really post). Great stuff on this board.

WoW. How beauteous can you get?!! You did a great job of advertising this set. If and when I ever complete mine, it won't grade this high, but I'll be elated when it's done!

Thank You to all who have checked out the set - it currently has 31 EBayers "watching". For some reason it took 4 or 5 hours to actually show up in the listings - sorry for EBay's delay.

Wally's unibrow is top flight. As is the gap between Carl Willey's two front teeth.

HH - which is your set on the registry?

Seriously, best of luck with the auction. I am a sucker for the wood grain issues ('55 Bowman as well, even '87 Topps). Must get back to completing my raw set. Could never aspire to this level though.

Mike,

I'm "Borch's '62 Master" -- #8 on the list..

Which reminds me, I wanted to ask others if they thought it was okay to list the source of the cards in the "Owner's Comments" column...I've got a spreadsheet going to keep track of my inventory and costs and that was part of it...

(add edit: ) Ironically, I'm really pleased with how tough PSA grades the '62 Topps baseball cards! I've gotten some PSA 5s that are absolutely b-eau-ti-ful cards! (See WHerzogPSA5 and also CLauPSA5)

Are you asking about Mike's eBay auction pictures, the posted message picture or the PSA Set Registry pictures??

I'd like to help answer your question if I could. One of my first posts last month was to ask how to display pics on this board and I learned a lot!

If you were asking about the pictures on the EBay auction, I pay about $5 a month to use andale picture hosting (www.andale.com); They have a variety of EBay related services, reasonably priced and simple to use. Much cheaper (if you sell a lot on EBay) than buying supersized pictures or extra pictures. I would recommend them to any high volume seller.

HoofHearted - I used to list the sources of my cards (on my 1978 Topps Baseball Registry set), but a couple of the people from whom I purchased the cards were not too thrilled with having their names publicized, so I canned the concept.

I'd double check with the sellers before I put their names up on the Registry.

Actually, I got the proverbial 'offer I could not refuse'. Most of the set was purchased by a very established registry set builder/owner, along with some other cards not posted on EBay. We were both quite pleased with the deal. While there were 55 people watching the auction, I liked this proposal enough to end the auction early. I will have a number of cards from the registry set on EBay soon - mostly 8's.

Sorry for the anti-climax. I was actually fantasizing about an exciting conclusion tonight (while envisioning a dud too).

Am sure you will figure out the buyer pretty quickly too. A true professional, who has been a pleasure to deal with.

While respecting the buyer's right to privacy, I will say that we ended up at a price slightly greater than SMR - don't know if that sheds much light on the best way to sell a registry set, but I am happy with the end result, particularly relative to my investment.

About 4 years to assemble; kept the best cards while building and selling 6 other 1962 Topps sets - most with 50 - 100 PSA cards. Bought a lot of big lots, partial sets, and high grade raw stuff. As many have lamented on these threads though - the last 10% took almost as long as the first 75%. I think at this point, I can probably name all of the 598 cards in order off the top of my head. Is this normal?

I believe your symptoms are normal -- for those with this particular disease. I believe the proper medications is Bud tall boys, so you may be well on your way to recovery.

auction was ended early. perhaps a sale off line? selling a complete set on ebay is tough. not many peeps have 20k to throw down all at once. I think an auction house or piece meal is the way to go. hopefully we can find out from the seller what happened.

A "friend" of mine recently sold a 1962 topps baseball set that was 98% done in all PSA 8 grade for 20% over SMR to a high end
collector.

This transaction took place off ebay from what I understand.

It seems that ebay is not the best place to get top dollar for complete graded sets, but peaks a lot of collectors interest.

So why not offer it first to members of this Board????? I find more and more members toot their horn here for Registry items for sale, take it to EBAY to complete sale or end the auction early. Getting tired of that. Give your fellow Board members a shot.

Actually, Hubcap, I believe my "sweating it out" comment encouraged the eventual buyer to contact me. Until that point, I had had zero offers or contacts (other than posts on this threads).

I echo the "Great job!" comments, Bosox.

From a beginner at the '62 set, in 7 or better (for the most part...): owner of the "Where Were You...?" Registry set.
