Is it OK to buy and sell on the set registry forum?

I need to buy some coins for my registry set and I am not sure weather or not to post it here. The other thing is that it is an NGC registry set I am usually on the US coin forum and I don't know if you guys are as strict about what to post and what not to post.

I will post on the BST board...
The above is the description of what the PCGS Registry Forum is for. Can someone explain to me what the "selling" part means?

"For Discussions"....... Pretty plain I think.
Ken
That's completely different than hawking wares.

Just rephrase it to read:
I need to discuss the buying of some coins for my NGC registry set and...
and discuss to your heart's content.
I'm not sure how many NGC sellers we have here, but I am sure there are a few. And don't pcgs coins get extra point-value across the street?
...and this guy is a buyer. Ouch. Damn egg shells...
pps. In the Southern Hemisphere is the Reg. Forum's swirling vortex going down clock-wise or counter clock-wise?
Since recent adjustments to allowed activities on the reg. forum, it has become way too boring and slow, imho.
Maybe we could spice things up with a slide-show, the kind that's narrated and there's a little beep-signal to change slides...
Here's some slides of my recent vacation at an ANA show (beep). This is me (beep). This is a coin (beep). Yes, it is beautiful. Here is the other side (beep). These are all the collectors and dealers (beep). Here is a pretty collector (beep). She collects moderns (bleep) and classics (beep). Here is a slide of fun-loving people discussing the pros and cons of modern and classic coins (beep). This is a group of collectors and dealers beating the bleep out of a collector who incorrectly posted on the pcgs registry forum (beep). Now wasn't that boss?
Sure - this is the proper forum for selling Registry Quality Coins.
(BTW - A Registry Quality Coin is any coin that can be entered into a PCGS Registry Set)

OK, so I can discuss selling a coin here and then use Paypal to transfer the funds and the US post service to deliver the coin. Is that what you mean? Not that it doesn't make perfect sense, it is just that I didn't think anyone ever tried to use this forum to do anything other than discuss the deal.
So what is the controversy? Taking my tongue out of my cheek for a moment, the real question should be "what qualifies as a registry quality coin"? I would suggest that any top of the population coin and any coin with 10 or less graded higher would be a fair guideline. The reality is that these coins should have a place separate from the sale of more common coins such as mint sets, rolls, etc. The question is, should there be a "Buy & Sell Registry Forum" or maybe the better answer is a "Modern Coin Forum" (which would allow the sale of registry quality coins).
As for the statement "Don't be fooled by the wannabe dealers who try and act like they are friends and collectors but are in reality selling here.....", I have to ask myself, "who would I rather buy a coin from"? Given the option of a well informed, educated, knowledgeable dealer (that has a huge overhead and has made enough money off of collectors to afford multi million dollar coins) or another collector (who’s asking price is about what they were offered by the above dealer) it does not take me very long to make a decision. Cut out the middle man!
I can see how the internet and forums like this one are a very real threat to professional dealers. By connecting collectors directly to other collectors sites like eBay have the potential to eliminate professional dealers entirely. Do not get me wrong. There are problems with dealing directly with other collectors and the potential for con artists to take advantage of the situation is great, but third party grading services like PCGS greatly decrease the likelihood of being sold a counterfeit or overgraded coin. Personally I think the cost saving benefit involved in eliminating these middle men far out ways the downside risks.
Guess it's all a matter of perspective.
I suppose you don't utilize any of the multitude of corporations in America that claim they are better than their competitors? Surrrrre.
And why the backhanded slap at Laura? It seems to me that the impetus to change here was a large group of collectors that got fed up with the constant spamming of links to Teletrade and coins in inventory. Viva la revelucion!
Never, anymore. For the most consistantly positive results, I (now, and for years) have ALWAYS employed a pre-screener. I use Wondercoin, who most competently handles all the facets of submittions, ie, the size and configuration of a submittion, delivery to and from PCGS and me, through the possibility of a coin's return for regrade, damage, mis-label, etc. to my satisfaction.

There is no controversy. David Hall said no coin sales on this forum. End of discussion.
Russ, NCNE
Who does David Hall think he is anyway?
Apparently not!
TDN: I stopped submitting bulk deals several years ago (although I did just help a collector submit some 2005 Mint set coins). I also have no idea why Coinfreak499 (whoever he is) started this thread. I agree that DH made a final decision on the issue and have followed the decision on this board since it was made. Just like you have made it clear on numerous occasions that you are NOT personally responsible for (or in total agreement with) all the comments Laura makes on these boards, I am also NOT responsible for the comments of others (please keep that in mind as well). We totally agree on one thing - DH has now spoken and the issue of buying or selling coins on this forum is no longer subject to debate.

Targeted is more like it, and that was wrong.
These forums are somewhat of a running joke in the dealer community - that's why so few big dealers participate here. To believe that a large national dealer would spend time here simply to build up clientel is a bit in error.
With that issue resolved, I am certain that over time this forum will be a very interesting place to participate in.

If their initial efforts failed...
I AGREE AND LOOK FORWARD TO IT AS WELL.

Ok, I have a bridge to sell as well. Just mention something here, only here and see how long it takes one of these non-participants to find out. It is amazing how many things these "dealers" have relayed back to me and others that originated on the boards. I have even had someone relay something to me about "someone" they knew made a big coin and what they were talking about was something I had done, quite funny actually, I just smiled and nodded. They may not post but they do read. If they don't read, well, I can't help their busniess skills and missing out on the set registry is a large business mistake.
Soo....
Does a thread with a link to the BST violate the new rules?

It means that if you decide to sell your Registry set that you can ask for and receive advice here on where [auction, message board or other venue] to sell or how [intact set, one coin at a time] to sell your coins but you can't offer your coins for sale here for a specific price.
Also I agree, David Hall has spoken and these are his forums. No debate there. I am just pointing out that this is a change in policy and the written policy should probably be changed to be in line with the new rule.
Finally I was suggesting that there is a need for a buy and sell forum of low population coins. I for one was originally drawn to this forum when I was trying to complete my PCGS SBA set. I could not find a 1981 P MS67 PCGS SBA$ for several years. This is exactly why I am suggesting that a TOP POP forum would be nice. Searching through thousands of listings looking for a POP 6 coin is tiring.
If you want to buy a 1978 proof set you can do so at any coin store or show and hundreds of places on the web any day of the week. If you are looking to buy an exceeding low population PCGS coin there is now no one place that you can go to find it. I think this is a loss to the hobby. I have no problem separating these sales from this forum but I would like to see an even better substitute.
<< <i>Yup - just what it says: we can have all the discussions we want about selling Registry sets. >>
So asking if anyone knows of anybody interested in buying a 1793 Chain Cent in PCGS MS65RD, would be okay.

Now if you asked for advice on how to sell your Registry set that included an MS65 chain cent.....

For discussions about PCGS registry sets - building them, buying them, selling them, collecting them.
So every registry set was built with one entire purchase?!?

Next, for your continuing pleasure, we'll be discussing what the definition of 'is' is....
Then it "is" okay to put up a WTB post for that important coin to complete your set, right?

I guess that means that Bill Clinton will be making the next post to this thread then.

Evidently not.
You don't have to try and twist that sentence at all, I was just trying to point out that the sentence is already totally ambiguous.

I see nothing ambiguous at all about this sentence. Them refers to the PCGS registry sets. Discussions is clear enough. Taken in the whole it's obvious this is the place for discussions regarding building PCGS registry sets, buying PCGS registry sets, selling PCGS registry sets and collecting PCGS registry sets.
Then it "is" okay to put up a WTB post for that important coin to complete your set, right?
evidently not
I'm sure someone could easily figure out how to write a thread inquiring as to the reasons why the such and such coin they need to complete their set is so difficult to find, now couldn't they? That would be a great discussion.
Reminds me of when a parent tells their children they can't do something or buy something, they whine and whine or try to expand what the parent told them in order to find a crack in their armor.
only if it is a post 1990 coin and grades ms/pf 69 or higher and it is listed on ebay or consigned to teletrade then it is ok!!!!! in fact the powers that be welcome it and there are many added benefits as such if you b1tch and scream loud enough
Selling has been allowed on this forum for at least the 4 years that I have been a member. It has been discussed MANY times prior and the only real question was HOW to sell on this forum not IF. Are you seriously suggesting that PCGS and Mr. Hall did not notice the selling going on for more than 4 years and that they/he are now enforcing the rule that has always been in effect?
Saying that selling does not mean selling is funny, not pointing out that selling is still in the description of the purpose of this forum.
Please note the conspicuous absence of the word SELLING or SELL from the descriptions of the other coin forums.
Here they are:
U.S. Coin Forum Talk about all types of U.S. coins with other collectors, dealers, and experts.
PCGS Set Registry Forum For discussions about PCGS registry sets - building them, buying them, selling them, collecting them.
Q & A Forum PCGS Question & Answer Forum
World & Ancient Coins Forum Questions and answers covering all types of World and Ancient Coins
Metal Detecting Discuss your best finds here!
Coin Swaps, Tags and Giveaways For member supported coin swaps, tags and giveaways.
Buy, Sell, & Trade - Coins Check this out for buying or trading coins with other members. Or, sell some of your own in this message board.
No one to the best of my knowledge has suggested that selling was ever OK on the other forums. Selling has always been allowed only on the 2 forums that list selling in their description (the Registry Forum & the Buy Sell Forum).
So, as I pointed out before, yes Mr. Hall has spoken and selling is NOW banned and selling should be removed from the description of this forum so as to reflect this NEW rule.
