Seems every GAI graderd card I have tried to crossove to PSA is altered!!

I have purchased and resubmitted at least 6 - 8 cards graded by GAI and every single time they have come back like this!! I remove them from the case and they look super nice. They have all been 1/2 grades such as 7.5's that I hoped would be PSA 8's or at the least PSA-7's, not whack jobs. What is the deal with this? I will never, ever touch another card from GAI!! Here is the latest . . .

    thanks for doing that

  • Do you have a photo of the back? I have to say everytime I have done it I got at least one grade higher or the same grade. I always mail my in the case.

    Your card look nice.

I am suprised that PSA would actually crack open another grading company's case. They must have a full proof way of not messing up the card.

I broke it out of the case before I submitted it to PSA, just to clarify. I have tried it the other way, that is hopeless with GAI graded cards.

I have had more negative outcomes than I expected when crossing over GAI and SGC in particular. My guess is
you are LUCKY if you go 50-50. I have given up buying other graded cards and "hoping" they cross to an
    acceptable PSA grade.

Actually I've had good success getting 8.5's (GAI) into PSA 9 holders. I will say this though for every upgrade, I get a down grade too.
  • I have had great luck crossing over SGC 92's into PSA 9 holders... SGC 98's also cross over into PSA 10 holders rather easily if they are centered well. I refuse to buy GAI slabbed cards period.

Always crack before you try and cross-over imo...

WHo did you buy it from? In my expereience all "batkings" cards are altered. Bothers me he has 3 or 4 psa's for sale right now.
  • So what does that say for Mike Baker's abilities as a grader? Take a look at the GAI 1952 Mantle in the Mile High auction recently. Huge stain on the right side and in my humble opinion, top left side appears to be trimmed. Measure it for your self side to side. No one but Baker could have been trusted to grade that card. What was he looking at???? Would get a PSA 5 if crossed, not an 8.

I've had crossed cards go every possible way- a GAI 6.5 went to PSA 8, a PSA 7 went to SGC 6, SGC 6's went up or down when crossing to PSA. And I've had case where just about every company's cards would not cross at all into anothers. For the most part, however, they all seem to cross to about the same- the consistancy (within a grade, or half grade) is pretty amazing. This tells me 2 things:

    1. There isn't a huge difference, and it comes down to holder preference and especially customer service preference
    2. I've spent way too much on grading fees.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

I don't know, from the scanned image, the left margin of that Yaz card looks like a 4 year old took a scissors to it.

  • i never have any trouble with gai or sgc if i crack them and send them to psa but if you send them in holders mainly gai i find 90% of time psa says trimed or not min grade
Same card of course crosses raw
.Just psa,s way of either scalping you for more money or saying they dont want crossovers either way it SUCKS

I'm not comparing GAI to Pro Grading. Pro Grading is a total sham. But I have seen some GAI slabbed cards which definitely looked trimmed to me. Of course if they can't even measure a friggin card, how can they be trusted to properly judge an unopened pack which is why I decided not to bid on any of those Leland unopened packs - because I would have bought them to be opened and I figure that I'll most likely get a bunch of stinkin' off center and miscut commons that were inserted in there after the pack was opened.

Just my opinion on the opened packs. Perhaps GAI has a good record of properly grading unopened packs.

  • Greed, Greed, The only Reason you people are crossing cards over is to get a bump in the grade to make more money. You Know something the card grading companies love it they make how much on every card that is submitted and resubmitted one way or the other.
  • At this point who do you think is the most consitant of the 3 services? It seems GAI is consitantly overgrading.image
