Memorial Day

Well guys, another holiday weekend is here and I want to take this time to wish everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend. I would like to say a prayer for all those serving in the Armed Forces and to those who have given their lives.

If you have time, I think Lee Greenwood exemplifies how we all feel about living in the USA.

It's been a pleasure talking with and learning from you each and every day!

When I was a kid, it was always May 30, and it was still known to some as "Decoration Day." My dad always took us to the Indianapolis 500. There was all the pre-race pagentry, like there always is, and then right before the Purdue band played "Taps," Jim Phillippi came on over the PA to remind the crowd that it was time "to pay homage to those individuals who have given their lives, unselfishly, and without fear, in order that we may witness, as free men and women, the world's greatest sporting spectacle." Sure brought perspective that has, obviously, stuck with me. Happy Memorial Day to all. Don't forget that it is about those who have given the "last full measure of devotion." God bless.

From 1998 until 2004 much of my job involved daily contact with military members and their families, providing support in a variety of emergency situations. When you get close to these active duty members and their families you see how much sacrifice they all make on a daily basis.

I also was raised in a quasi-military family, my father being a Korean vet and a civilian DoD employee for 45 years. Other relatives attended West Point and one a Marine.

Thank you to all that have and continue to serve, and their families.

Celebrate the living and fallen, and freedom this weekend.

Have a Happy -- and SAFE -- Memorial Day weekend everyone. I'm putting our flag up as soon as I send this off.

Our thoughts are with those that have protected, and are protecting, this wonderful place to live...

Everyone have a safe and enjoyable weekend, and without being trite, just take a second and think about what it's really all about.

I got an early Memorial Day present yesterday - I FINALLY got my official date for OCS. Oct. 9th is the big day I head over to Quantico. I've been really apprehensive about it lately not knowing exactly when I'll be leaving (it seemed like never!), but it's great to have a light at the end of the tunnel!

    Damn Mud!
As a graduate of OCS at the Fort "Benning school for Boys" - I wish you all the luck in the world. My best advice - take it a "day at a time" and don't take anything dished out to you personally - we used to say -
"it's all just a process" - laugh crap off and move on. Since, most likely, you will be "rated" by your peers also, get to know everyone and be as helpful and non-judgemental as possible.

    All my best

Thanks for the advice Mike. I'm actually really looking forward to it. I've also got a little experience at the Columbus School for the Blind and Deaf - I enlisted in the TXARNG and went to basic training there in the Summer of 03. I'm interested in seeing what the big differences are between enlisted and officer training. I expect a lot more scrutiny at Quantico as a Marine Officer candidate than I received as a face in the crowd who could just pass under the radar at Ft. Benning. I think that between the ARNG and the Corps (ROTC) at A&M, I'm about as ready as one can get!

I also expect the PT at Quantico to be the devil's own as compared to Benning - cripes.

I am proud to say that i served my country from 78'-85' and was stationed at Ft. Lee,VA and then on to Ft. Benning,GA ( Harmony Church and Sand Hill). Two of my buddies decided to go Army for life. Both hit their 25 years this year. One is here at home the other is due to come home at the end of this summer from Iraq.
