Does anyone have an opinion about this Ernie?

  • I think thats one of the first cards I've seen from PRO that isnt a 10! Oh, wait a minute. Thats GEM grading. If the card wasnt trimmed it surely would have garnered a PRO 10......

That card's been trimmed to the point where it's not an Ernie...it's an Ernestine!

    Wasn't that Flip Wilson?

I'm going to assume the seller isn't a member of the board--how about this novel approach: "The winner will also receive a free PSA graded card. If a free PSA card is not available winner will receive a free graded card from BVG, SGC, GAI, or BGS."

  • This may be a stupid question, but what is "trimming"? Does it mean that people actually shave the sides to make the corners sharper?
I'm just getting back into collecting and have never heard this term before. Thanks.

I no longer bid on auctions where the seller's feedback is kept "private". Learned my lesson on that one.
  • I can't believe that people actually do that. Shocking that people are that desperate...

  • PRO SUCKS

Is this company still in business? This is garbage. About a year ago there were several private auctions on ebay with this format, offering a free PSA card for winning the polished terd PRO card. If they are still in business I can't believe that they haven't been sued. I hate trimming and them promoting it is complete crap. I guess it does provide a nice niche for reputable companies though. By the way a trimmed card is a card that has been cut, shaved, lasered, or sanded to remove edge and corner wear. It is rampant with raw vintage cards. Always have a ruler when buying cards on the spot and ask online sellers for exact card measurements when buying online when possible. Also some cards are produced oversized and still measure even though they have been trimmed. Examine the edges under magnification. If one or two of the edges look different than the others and the card is sharp, it is probably hacked. Just about every auction on ebay that has raw ungraded cards that are unusually sharp without disclosure of the measurements in the description are trimmed. Be careful.

Yeah. I never bid on private auctions.

Poor Ernest. He was once a perfectly decent 2nd-year card in EX condition. Then he went under the knife and was made almost worthless. I just don't get it. A PSA 5 is worth more than a PRO 8 any day of the week -- I guess unless you're a newbie who thinks PRO 8 is the same as PSA 8 and SGC 88.

My opinion is that I wouldn't even think of bidding on anything in a PRO holder. Too risky for my blood.
