If there is a major difference I think they would. Though I feel that they will sometimes confuse a really high grade business strike with the new satin finishes. Kind of like the 1965-1967 sms coins, hence makeing it hard to get good grades for the regular strikes.

I think they will need to see them first and know if there is a consistent way to tell them apart. Look at these Sacs... one is brilliant, the other is satin. Both came from rolls. What do they get attributed as?

The first photo is one photo, with both coins at about the same angle to the light.

The second and third are separate photos, but show how the mirror coin makes hard reflections of the light while the satin diffuses it.

I said "no" just to be grouchy. image

It really depends on the type of registry set we're talking about.

    - If it's a "full set of Lincolns" (etc.), then they should probably be included.
    - If it's a "circulation set of Jeffersons" (etc.), then I don't think they qualify. They are collector coins, and not circulation coins.
    - For Type sets....Not required, but allowed in place of a normal circulation coin.

My biggest beef with the NGC Type set registry set is that it includes both the 1976 Bicentenial coins, AND the Silver Bicentenial coins. Why!?! It doesn't include Silver Ikes....Doesn't include special matte finish coins.....But for some reason, the Silver Bicentenial coins are a whole separate type?!?

Then again, the new Bower's type collectors guide includes them too, so I'm obviously wrong. image
