How about a link or the auction number? I agree with Den - be careful that the second offer isn't really the "creation" of a "shill-winner" to make you think you are getting a bargain.

General rule - don't be affraid to pass on an item - there will be another along the way soon enough IMO.

If you are interested in a vintage education - I recommend you just read the boards for a while to include the vintage and registry forum and ask questions along the way. Most guys truly enjoy sharing their knowledge - keep in mind - there are no dumb questions!

    Good luck

  • Item #5195336506 Thanks fellas I really appreciate it.
  • He broke the record in 61 or 62

    Last 3 went between 100 -130

His feedback is only 18 but I looked at his completes and there were other maris graded and higher dollar purchases of vintage people were happy with.

He did have a reserve that was not met.

He doesn't list any shipping or ins charges so I used the ask the seller a question option, I am awaiting his response.

61 in '61. Has anybody ever made a counter-offer on a "second chance" bid? In other words, make an offer for lower than your last bid? Does it ever work?

  • It has to be the last highest offer. If I decline he can go to the next highest bidder if its a satisfactory figure for him.

The last 2 went for 137.51 and 122.50, but they looked a little bit nicer. Its not a bad price for what they are trading for, but buy the card and NOT the holder or number. Look at the other psas 6's that sold, and if you feel comfortable, go for it....
  • fanatic yeah your right the one for 122 looked alot better.Good advice, that helped focus my perception alittle better. Thanks
  • Moonlightharvester,

  • I think one lesson I learned tonight is dont be cheap. In light of that I think I'm going to shop for a 7 possibly an 8.I need to learn alot more before I get comfortable buying. My first intentions were to buy a clemente rc 6 or better or an aaron rc 6 or better. This one caught my att because it was cheap and that will prob get me in trouble fast.

All of you guys were great help thanks alot.Im sur I'l be pesterin you again soon thanks again Dale

The '62 Maris is a condition rarity, if you weren't already aware of that. Like pretty much every card #1 in a vintage set (along with #100, #200, etc), it got stuck on top of stacks of rubber banded cards, so it's tougher than normal to find in high-quality condition. Keep that in mind when you're bidding.

I wouldn't totally agree with that. The PSA 6 can be the buy of the century if you shop - if you can get a nicely centered one...they can be a great buy and you still get a really nice card/set to collect.

What is important, if keeping in context with your goals, is what your plans are? If you are looking at an investment, then high grade may be better - but if you are looking for enjoyment and still get a good looking set, take another look at the 6's in terms of price and bang for your buck IMO. There are some really good looking 6s out there!

    Just something to think about.

  • I guess what I meant to say is,in my rc and current player collection i am a 9.5 and 10 nut.The price of the 6 lured me but after looking at a 7 8 or 9 I realized that i wont be satisfied with the 6 even at a good price.I'm tailoring my vintage taste right now and the help and advice I've recieved in just this post is great.I know myself and the way I'm feelin and thinkin its allready a done deal. There will be a vintage graded aaron clemente or maris in my house before long.Im gonna take the advice and read the registry post , this post and bug you guys with rookie questions.I think Im in the right place to become a succesful vintage collector
