K-135 (a) AUSTRIAN AND GERMAN ALLIANCE, 1914, Variety, Struck AE medal, 33.4mm, wt. 17.25g. PP (Polierte Platte), RR in AE.

Obverse: Not pictured as the obverse was executed by another medallic artist, Drentwett, It pictures the conjoined busts, left, of Franz Josef of Austria and Wilhelm II of Germany.

Reverse: Pictured. Initials and crowns of the two rulers joined with flowers, ribbon, and sword. Inscriptions; WELTKRIEG/GOTT MIT UNS-VIR IBUS UNITIS/1914 (World War – God with us – with united strength.

A beautiful example with frosty original devices and toned, proof-like reverse fields.

Goetz is known to have only worked collaboratively twice with other artists to create a medal. I have a bid in on the other example that I am hoping to win.

    ...sorry, maybe at another time. I am so backed up on getting images done I am only focusing on Goetz material...although I do have some new Gies and Eberbach material I think you guys would like. I haven't counted but I'll bet I have forty or so patterns I haven't done a thing with photographically... I found that the best lighting is in my dining room which means I must work around the house schedule.

    Wow is right. Not only is that a fascinating effect with the "cameo" proof surfaces, but the design is delicately intricate.

    Not to mention that you have an awe-inspiring, comprehensive collection. Keep up the good work, Cacheman!!
