This guy's friend sure lucked out . . .

. . . at that estate sale.

ebay listing: 5181751068.

The 53 looks pretty good. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

An obvious fake, even with my limited baseball knowledge.

What kills me is that even with a statement such as "I do not know if they are real or not, so I will not be listing them as such", there are still suckers out willing to bid up these things like moths to a flame.

People continue to fall for this because there will ALWAYS be people trying to get something for (next to) nothing.

It's the reason scams have been able to work forever, since the beginning of time. The reason quick 'get rich' schemes are able to be sold on TV, all that nonsense - people always looking for that mythical free lunch.

The "Get rich quick" schemes are for the seller to get rich quick and not the buyer.

    The 53 mantle is legit...........................
..........from the 1996(?)archives set with the large borders.

$730 is a lot of money for a handful of reprints. Cute how he applied a light haze of yellow-brown in PhotoShop to make the white borders of the cards look aged.

Hey, the $730 is for just one of the reprints. I don't have the stomach to look at the others. But, you know, he (she) has got a lot of good feedbacks. What's the explanation? Is getting a few thousand bucks worth it? I guess it is. How can we go about getting these scammers prosecuted?

well, if the ebay id was stolen (which has happened in the past) the legit owner of the ID may have no idea. I am not saying this happened here but it sure is a possability.

From one of his current listings:
Cub fans, grab this 2003 Topp's retired autograph from Ron Santo the great Cubbie 3rd baseman who should be in the hall of fame!!! Retired in 1974, it is a travesty that he has not been enshrined. Add this great ball players card to your collection. Thanks and please, check my other listings.

Yet my baseball knowledge is so limited that I do not know anything about this Mickey guy other than he went on to become a mouse and played on a team with that bear that kept stealing my piiiicinic baskets. So I better sell it as maybe being fake rather than grade and make five digits from it.
  • The item is no longer viewable - i think ebay caught on....
