Small Fish, Smaller Pond - My First Registry Set

For some reason, I always thought the registry sets were for "Collectors Club" members. In other words, I figured you had to PAY to play.

Well, a friend informed me otherwise, so I entered my first set in today. Three-Cent nickels.

I'm currently #5! Probably helps that there are only 9 sets entered. image

I guess we'll see if I get caught by the bug, and start hankering for that #4 slot. image

Quakin' in your boots, huh? All I have to do is quintuple my set rating, and I'm......still way behind your all time set. image

I took a liking to the 3-centers awhile back, and pick them up when they pass my way. When I started, they were way under priced in the low MS grades (62-63). A bit more expensive now, but still a bargain compared to some coins of equal age.

All big fish started as little fish.

    Congratulations and happy hunting.

  • Go for it, Tommy. The 3 cent nickels are a fun series. They're beautiful coins. They have an interesting history. And they're surprisingly reasonably priced. Enjoy!

Hey, STOP encouraging Tommy!!! I'm in there as current #3 and so I sure don't need someone looking to shove me down another place in these all-important rankings.

P.S. By the way, image . In truth, I think 3 CNs are neat little coins, too. I haven't been able to add much to set over the past couple of years, but I still think they are really neat. I purchased a BIG book on 3 CNs, which is mentioned on this website . I've not had time to look at the book, but it sure looks complete. (It also looks poorly written and/or poorly proofread. I always wonder why non-professional numismatic authors do not allow someone else to proofread their books. For me, at least, poorly written and/or poorly typeset books are a huge turnoff.)

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I have a realistic shot at overtaking #4, but I think your set is safe. image
