Where did Ted Kluzewski get that "tank top" on his 57 Topps card?

Maybe his arms were too big for the uniform?

I actually remember reading an article regarding this photo. At the time it was taken, Klu had ripped the sleeves off his jersey to make his arms look bigger. He was having a bit of fun with the fans that day.

    who is being sarcastic???image
  • Actually the Reds uniforms were sleeveless vests that year. Big Klu ripped the sleeves off of his undershirt.

This kind of became his trademark. I remember the films of the 1959 World Series and he had his White Sox uniform sleeves shortened to kind of achieve the same effect.

Those were some "big guns" in the pre-steriod days.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

Did some checking on Klu cards on Ebay, I think that was his favorite pose for cards. Any found this, does not look real to me? What do you think?

  • Its a paper card cut from the foldout in Sports Illustrated in 1954. As worthless as the grading company....
