Giveaway in Honor of Dad - Gold - WINNERS IN LAST POST

Dad recently passed away. Now, Dad was a coin collector but really only collected Gold coins unless someone exerted an outside influence on him. This was not easy to do, he retired from the San Jose CA Police Dept after twenty years. Many of them as a Detective. In his honor I will be sponsoring a giveaway. This will not be your average giveaway.

Since Dad preferred gold I will be giving away gold. I cannot afford to give Dad's favorite $20.00 Liberty. But I can and will find some nice (probably foreign) gold coins for this giveaway (the size will partially be determined by the number of entries).

Anyone can enter but I will double the entries for any one in the adult category that is willing to honestly state that they are active or retired Police, Fire or EMT personal (office or field does not matter - both are needed to function). Active or retired military vets will also get double entries (Dad served in Germany) and anyone that was or is a Paratrooper will get and additional entry.

There is a separate YN category that will also include a Redbook and a mystery coin. Any youth that is willing to state that they are involved in Scouting, Explorers, Camp Fire or any other nationally recognized youth organization will also receive a double entry.

Giveaway ends April 7th. Names will be written on pieces of paper and tossed into a (Scout) hat and the winners will be notified ASAP after the drawing. YN's must be able to provide permission from their parents to allow me to send to their address.

Good luck to all,

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Please enter me in the adult category. I'm not associated with Police, Fire, EMT but I am currently a Boy Scout Leader and Cub Scout Committee Chairman.

If you would also consider entering my 11 year old son Michael in your giveaway it would be appreciated. It's his first year in Boy Scouts, after 3 years of Cub Scouts, and the first merit badge he earned was the Coin Collecting badge.

    Thanks,
    Millertime

Scouting isn't only for the kids, I never had the chance to be in Scouts as a youth so I jumped on the chance to be actively involved in Scouting with my son. I've been through Scouts with my son every step of the way and plan on continuing until the end. In fact we went on an overnight camping trip last weekend, it was a little chilly (low 20's) but it was still fun. We went to a place called Topaz Mountain in Utah to hunt for topaz, Apache tears (obsidian), and jasper. Between Scouts and baseball (I've also been a coach for the last 5 years) we really have built a special bond that will last forever and I'd encourage everyone to spend more time with their kids and become actively involved in everything they do. As a Scout leader and a baseball coach I see so many kids at games or activities without their dads that it makes me sad.

Sorry Mrpawn, I didn't mean to hijack your thread but I think the the bond between son and father is very special so I think your giveaway is a nice way to honor your dad.

  • Mrpawn,

Great post! I spent 6 years tracking smugglers in the everglades. I wanted to commend your class in honoring your father for his patriotic service in such a generous manner. I do not wish to be considered as a possible winner, but I do hope that you will give the YN's extra consideration when you determine a winner.

    Bless your father,
    Have a Great day!

My father is retired National Guard, my oldest brother is in Afghanistan -with the Air Force 27years, my next oldest is retired Air Force 20 years. I am a rad tech in the ER and work daily with EMT's, police and firefighters. I appreciate your support of all who are not treasured enough and put their life on the line daily. My prayers are with you and your family.

  • I am very sorry to hear of your recent loss. I lost my Dad a couple years ago, and altho the wound is not so fresh, I still miss him dearly. Yours will slowly heal as well. Treasuring the precious memories is a good thing.

My Dad bought me my first Whitman book. One of the last things he did was make up a book of circ. coins for all of his great grandchildren - just near the end. He was a Navy man, as is my youngest. My oldest twin (yes it's true) has served in Air Force for about 13 years, and is also a police officer. He is currently on leave for active duty. I am not eligible for the extra stuff, but would like to enter as a regular civilian who DOES truly appreciate and thank everyone who serves in those fields. God bless you in your healing.

I am very, very sorry to hear about your dad. You didn't say what he passed away from. That has interested me lately since I'm a recent cancer survivor. I also am very, very retired unfortunately also due to what they had to remove from the cancer. Again, you have my condolences and sympathy. These giveaways are a great idea. Since I've heard about my condition and there is no one to leave things to, I've already had 15 giveaways and will have a few more.

Sincerest condolences to you and your family. I was in the Coast Guard from 79-83(not a vet, but an ex-serviceman), and an EMT in my hometown for a few years. I was never involved in scouting as a child, but served as an assistant scoutmaster for a much younger brother's troop, and participate in my 7 year old's troop as well. In fact our blue and gold dinner is this coming friday night, and fishing derby on saturday morning. Thanks for the chance to enter your contest.

I am terribly sorry about your loss. I know how you feel. I lost both my mother and father witnin a nine month period. She went first and he told his kids that he would not last a year because he could not stand being apart from her that long.

Being a veteran of both the Korean and Viet Nam eras and the recipient of the Bronze Star, I would

consider it an honor to enter this giveaway.

Served in The Air Force from April 1951 until May 1979. Retired and then worked for the Air Force as a civilian court reporter until 1995 when I finally retired.
