Finally - images I can be proud of

So at long last I got a chance to set up my new camera (canon digital rebel) on a tripod and get some half decent images.

Please be as honest and critical as necessary, all help appreciated.
Next time I would like to try a black background but I didn't have anything suitable available

P.S. I can not view your images at work. The firewall blocks image hosting sites.

The crown looks great, but due to the highly reflective surfaces, the kookaburra has a little bit of glare. I'm guessing you used indirect lighting, it just wasn't indirect enough.
Silver coins will look wonderful on black
Is the Crown really that color? If not, and the background is white, try messing with your white balance settings. Love the cameo effect on the Kook

Yeah I can see the glare more now than on the camera screen last night, the kookaburra is difficult too as it is in a thin plastic sleeve
Thanks though

With the crown in hand the colours look quite realistic. I'm about to put it on ebay so bid and you can see for yourself!

<< <i>I am home so now I can view the images. Nice first images. Have you tried the custom white balance? I usually get a piece of white paper and fold it in half and use it to set the custom white balance first and then I shoot all my images agaisnt a white background. >>
Good idead, thanks. I set the white balance with the coin in place.

<< <i>Nice pics! Always takes time to learn all the ins and outs of a new camera. >>
No kidding
I'm still trying to figure out a bunch of stuff on my new camera
Lighting is still a major difficulty for me.

Great pics. Congrats on the new camera. Just wait, it will change your life.
I too have issues with the lighting. If you try to use the flash, the reflection gets you. If you try to use direct lighting, seemingly no matter how strong, it doesn't show up as bright enough and the pics are a bit dark, like some of those are.
I still haven't figured it out fully yet. But, I am hopefully going to post some more pics tonight and will see how they come out.
The next step is to pick up one of the newer photo, color "all-in-one" printers,. I have an HP Photosmart 2710. Talk about life changing! No more trips to the store for processing or even charges on one of the many online developers/sites. And the pics, in all sizes, are FANTASTIC! Scanner, copier and fax too!
