Mystery coin. Can anyone identify?

Also having real horrible time trying to post a picture of anything. I'm just to old to figure it out but here goes again. This coin is about 1 1/2" inches in diameter and is heavy enough to be pure silver. I don't know where I got it, when I got it or anything about it. I jsut found it in with a bunch of miscellaneous coins that I never filed anywhere.

Maria Theresa Thaler... they've been restruck countless times, so it's likely a very young coin.

    It's a Maria Theresa Thaler. Probably a re-strike though.

(I'm pretending I actually have a clue when, in reality, I read Jeremy's post first).

I believe it's basically Austria's version of our silver eagle (a bullion coin), except they've been doing it for a long time.
    When in doubt, don't.

I didn't post it on the world forum because I didn't even know if it was foreign, American, a token or whatever. However, I did post it in the obvious place to get some kind of an answer because there are always people out there that appear to know lots and lots. I was right obviously because I found out what it is now. I've probably had it for 30 or 40 years though because I don't remember ever receiving it from anyone. By the way the photos were taken on the top of my washing machine in the basement with only the basement light, no tripod, no special nothing. I did wait for the washer to finish the spin cycle before takiing the picture.
Thanks for the info on the coin. I seldon worry about the value since I don't ever sell coins.

  • I had some that were 1900s Paris restrikes. I believe I used this website to help with my identification...
