Nose Hair Pic Added!!! 2005 Anomalies or "A Special Surprise Inside!"

I received my 2005 clad proof set today. I identified two issues with the set I received.

1. A mint worker's errant nostril hair IN the case resting directly on Jefferson's forehead of the buffalo nickel.

2. This:

Is this some sort of planchet flaw? It looks like the copper layer was squashed through the zinc layer near the bottom of the bust. Also note the divot in George's neck.

Any thoughts?

  • The composition of the quarters is as followes. .750 nickel .250 copper bonded to a solid core of copper. So there is no zinc in the quarter FrankHKP7. What you may be seeing is minor coppe showing through the clad layer or the clad layer didnt get mixed thourly enough when processed. Both are common thing and dont bring a premium. The bubble thin gon his neck just below the hair line looks like it might be a die gouge still not pemium for it.

    Byron,

    Thanks for the info...

I'm upset the nose hair won't bring a premium.

That's okay, in my 2000 Proof ASE, there is a giant piece of blue lint right in the middle of the field on the reverse. It's frustrating because your eye is immediately drawn to that piece of lint while the rest of the coin appears to be flawless. I want to open up the container and remove the lint, but then I fear that will cause more harm than good.
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

Just don't tuch the coin! The cases are not sealed and open relatively easily compared to older proof sets! image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I would try to move it around in the holder till it ended up on Jefferson's hair, and sell it as a rare "toupe' error".-----------------BigE

  • Thats no hair.... A crack in the plastic case or a flaw in the die maybe, but its not a hair.

Dude, it's a hair. Not a crack, and certainly not a die flaw. If it was a carck in the plastic I wouldn't have posted it. If it was a die crack or flaw I would have posted saying it's a die crack. It's a hair, for real.
