I only charged him $5 for priority mail To Canada,he got it about a week later and sent me e-mail:
"I get coin today You so greedy make me pay twice" He even said he was going to contact eBay!image

He never replied to any of my e-mails,and I didn't know what he meant till he left feedback.
It almost makes me want to stop selling to foreign folks, but I know alot of nice Canadian collectors...
Some people... image

I have since blocked this eBay member from bidding on my auctions,I would recomend you do also before you get a neg from this fool!

  • I got nailed on feedback from a Canadian as well due to him having to pay duty fees. You are not alone. image

This is precisely why I won't ship out of the US. This guy has left several non-positives for petty stuff.

Ditto. I have foreign bidders blocked. My only exception is APO/FPO.

Triple ditto. And on occasions when I've broken my own rule I get the shaft.
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

And then you have the ones who demand you mark a $300 coin as a "gift". I'm not committing a crime for anyone.

<< <i>I dont buy anything from Canada either. You cant get contact information from foreign countries if there is a problem. >>

I thought that only applied to Germany because of their privacy laws.
  • I have bought from ebay and so far I didnt have to pay custom fee for importing coins into the UK, I believe they have different rules with regard to numismatic collectables.

Yup, that stinks. I'm uptight and paranoid about my feedback, it's perfect and I've probably bent too far backwards to avoid negatives. It's a fragile thing and it only takes one unabomber to screw it all up. I rather admire those who have taken a bullet (neg) on matters of principal--like flaming the Savannah Sociopaths.
Good advice, avoiding non-U.S. sellers and buyers. No offense to neighbors to north or anyone else, it's just fraught with peril if things go awry.

I got neg feedback. The guy didn't even pay and I relisted the item. I left him neg feedback saying he didn't pay along with 3 other people. 50% of the stuff he won he didn't pay for and got negative feedback.

This is the actual quote "Seller lied about the condition of the package in e-mail saying it was GEM MINT"

But the thing is HE DIDN'T EVEN PAY FOR IT, I DIDN'T SEND IT, HE NEVER SAW IT. Let alone that I never sent him any emails. I'm so pissed, I'm writing ebay everyday to get his guy kicked off and that neg feedback taken off my record.

Good luck trying to get the Neg removed. EBay pretty much only protects the power screwers. I have my doubts that they will do the right thing for you unless you pay lots and lots in fees.

Maybe Ebay should review every negative feedback before it is listed for public view; allow both sides to give their story to Ebay before the public sees anything. There really aren't that many negatives given that Ebay could not find the time to do this.

  • I have not been hit by customs on ebay buys ( cross fingers !!) but all of my purchases from the US Mint get hit.

If you have a business license, go to your ciruit court and open a law suit against the guy for defamation of name and character, as well as breach of contract and fraud. Then include eBay as a party after you have completely documented your attempts to have the fraudulent name defamation removed. Eventhough they are "only a venue", THEY are the ones publicising the defamation, and therefore, attributing to the fraud.

You also have the choice of openning the suit in a lower, State court, but because it affects interstate commerce, it may be accepted.

Then again, most people don't have time to stand up to Goliath and go a few rounds.

Yet another reason I'm not using eBay as much and switching to other smaller, more "localized", auction venues, like BidVille.

Oops..had to edit because I forgot this:

Eventhough the person is a CANADIAN, the court *should* drop the civil "charges" against him, as the U.S. Court will probably claim no jurisdiction, BUT they should still allow it to be heard AGAINST eBay! as the sole remaining party to the suit. Again, depends on the money/legal power you have behind you, but eventually, someone is gonna have to show that eBay can't hide behind an umbrella of the "indemnified venue" forever. It's just gonna cost ALOT of money to do so.

Wrong. Federal law trumps state law in this case. Ebay can not be sued due to provisions of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 which states a company hosting a public forum on the internet can not be held liable for posts by it's users. Ebay didn't name it the "Feedback Forum" by coincidence.

You sent the package global priority and customs there opened it? For a coin that small and light you don't need a customs form, or did you send it airmail insured where you needed the customs form?

I have been shipping a lot of coins to Canada, and the low value stuff goes global priority and I have not had one complaint of customs opening the package.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I live in the Netherlands, and most coins worth more than $50 will be send global priority mail to me (uninsured and not registred). I never had to pay customs...

Once I had a registred package sent to me, and I had to pay customs for it...

    Normally it won't get caught...

    Thanks for the responses.

I'm not going to court, it's just ebay and I've put my response along with his negative.

One of the ways to have ebay remove negative feedback is to say that the bidder won the bid just to leave negative feedback. So that's what I said he did. How can they not believe that? He bids, he doesn't pay, he leaves negative feedback, so he must have bid with the sole intention of leaving negative feedback, never intending to pay. Sounds logical to me, but I'm not holding my breath.

In response to the customs forms,I always ship foreign via the flat rate priority mail envelopes. It saves me money as I can stuff them full plus folks tend to like you more if it gets to them in under a week.
I've considered banning foreign buyers, but I don't think I will. There is just to big a customer base in foreign countries. In fact several of the items I just recently sold were to foreign people. One already got it and left positive feedback. He paid fast and was a great buyer.I think it would be un-fair to block this induvidial out.But if I get negged by another foreign buyer,I'll call it quits and you all can say"told you so!"
