Shep, you are right. As you can see from the asking price of the ex-mounted piece, it is not cheap , ( it costs more than my car and unlike the coin, my car is new!) and I don't think I would have bought it in today's market even if I could afford it. When I did, it was the biggest coin decision I ever had to make and it had to be a quick one. It is by far the most valuable coin I own and the highlight of my collection, definetely in the keepers box. I've already shown it here, but Darkhorse's photo is new. Thanks for the comments.

That's Whoever tried to repair the mount also did a pretty poor job. I'm not sure if a skilled jeweller can fully repair a mountmark, but my assumption is that they can make it almost indiscernible. Not to mention a story I heard the other day about the wizards at the Bulgarian mint that could make your coin look like something totally different and you wouldn't have a chance to know it.

BTW, Dimitri, does your piece show any wear, or is it AU because of the hairlines?

I don't think he can, but people have been fooled in the past with similar pieces. Given the very low mintage, I wonder if it's the same piece I had encountered years and years ago in a shop in Athens. The now deceased owner, was trying to pass it as a problem free coin to unsuspected buyers. But unsuspected buyers don't buy this kind of coins.
