Am I just wound too tight?

....or am I right in thinking that if I take the time, at some board members request, to scan some cards and send the files in an email, I deserve at least a sorry no thanks in response?

    I hear ya Mark.

    I get the same thing in the workplace. Long detailed solutions to someone's issue, and not so much as a "got it" or even a "stop it" in response.

    Whattya gonna do?

    We're ALL wound too tight. Anyhoo, this is the reason why I always ask folks to email me and request a scan and make a ballpark offer pending approval of that scan. You tend to weed out the "I just wannna see it", tire kickers. I think a no thank you would be the minumum you should expect, but I'm wound pretty tight as well image

    of course if you would just post a scan on here for everone to see you wouldn't have to worry about sending out a gazillion emails, and maybe it would just catch someone's eye would would end up buying it.

    Jon - you're missing the point. I'm not desperately seeking to sell something. I was helping out a fellow collector on these boards who requested scans of cards he needed for his 1960 Topps set. As a favor to him, a fellow collector, I invested some of my admittedly worthless time to scan those cards, get his email address and send them to him. What I'm saying is I'd rather not get validation from members of this board that my time is worthless and not worthy of any response. I'm not naming this guy because he is still posting on these boards today and I'm amazed that he doesn't recognize himself.

    I totally understand the point you made, my comment was directed to DGF. He recently sold a 77 Rose PSA 10, and requested the interested parties email him requesting a scan. I simply wish he would have posted a scan, and taking the time to copy his email address and create and email seemed a bit time consuming. With the exception of Ryan cards (which I go after) most of the cards I buy are impulse buys because I happen to see a scan of the card, like the way it looks, and buy it. For some reason DGF prefered to keep the picture of his card only for "truly interested buyers" instead of the entire board, and perhaps someone like me who might have seen a scan and decided to make a generous offer. But that was his decision.

    So Mark, to respond directly to your point, if I personally requested a scan of some cards from a board member because i was interested in those specific cards, and the board member had to scan those cards just for me, i would without a doubt let the seller know if i was interested or not after seeing the scans.

    Jon,
    Let me see if I get this straight. You want me to take the time to post a scan so all the goons who get uptight about SPAM and quote prices like $150 can invent problems with the card and make a mockery out of something totally legit, correct? We're talking about a $750 "impulse purchase", yet you find copying an email address too time consuming??? Pardon me, but you sound like a class A jerk and the EXACT reason I didn't post a scan.

    I am sorry to hijack your thread. Have you considered that perhaps he just forgot or your email didn't reach him? A long-shot, but possible.
    It wasn't me, was it??? That sounds like something I'd do.

    Morrelman the person may not know he received the scans and may have had ISP block them or put in spam or junkmail folders. Follow up with an email asking if he got them or not. He might be thinking poorly of you for thinking you never sent them.

    Mark, you are not wound too tight. Simple manners are unfortunately not as widespread among all the board members here as they should be. Most people here are awesome and would never leave you hanging--but others don't have a clue about being polite or simple etiquette. I've had 2 different board members just in the last 5 days that have left me hanging with no response. One was a negotiation to buy some cheap vintage football commons, and the other was someone who offered to help me with some modern baseball wantlists. I too feel annoyed when I take the time to send them lists or reply to messages that they have sent me, and then they just never reply. I just note their names and know that any future inquiries or offers to buy/sell/trade with these persons will probably be a useless waste of my time to even start new negotiations with them. If I am awaiting a response, usually I check to see if the persons in question have been logged into the forums during the past few days, and if they have, I consider it a busted deal and keep their PMs in my records so I 'll remember them if they ever contact me in the future. If they haven't been logged in, then I will give them the benefiit of the doubt and consider the possibilty that maybe they are having computer problems, gotten sick, or maybe they have gone on a short trip or vacation.

    In any event, I'd still say that 90% of the board participants are great to deal with and would not treat you that way.
    I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

    Hi Mark
    When a person receives a scan, it takes all of 2 seconds to hit the reply button and tell the party that they had received the scan and will consider the card or "thank you for taking the time to send me a scan but I will pass on the card" - courtesy is free.

    Oh, and BTW, if one is a collector?...by definition...we are wound a little on the tight side. image

    #2 - After being ignored, I posted on the thread he started if he had received my email. I also ttt'd it twice.
    #3 - All the while, he has been logged in and posting on these boards.

    As one greater than us once said, some people don't have the sense they were born with.

    I sent you cards, correct? You were one of the gang who contacted me about some 80's cards? I got a dozen lists via email and completed roughly half as the others never followed up. Did I follow through with you on Bradley and Bankhead? Was that you? My memory is shot!!!
