Should know the results in a couple of weeks, hopefully.
Well, I just called ANACS and got my grades for these coins. The grades are posted below. All my VAM designations were correct, so each were written on the slabs.
Included in the bunch were:
1) 1878-P 7TF VAM 79 (Disconnected Leaf) Hot 50 variety. MS62
2) 1881-S Cool end roll toner. MS65 I am happy about this one. Bought as an MS64, but the toning is so pretty to me.
3) 1882-O/S VAM 3 Early Die State Top 100 AU details, net EF45 cleaned. Not unhappy about this. Knew it was cleaned, but wanted the EDS to be on the label and it is.
4) 1899-P--Nothing special, but paid grey sheet bid of $110.00 for an MS60 from my local shop. Looks a bit better to me. Hoping for a 63. MS63. Very happy about this. My guess of MS63 was correct.
5) 1921-D VAM 3A AU53. I can live with that. Scarce variety that I bought for $10.00.
6) 1921-S VAM 1B4a (Thorn Head) XF45. Bought for $10.00, too.
7) 1921-S VAM 1B6 (Thorn Head) VF30. Bought for $10.00, too.
8) 1922-P VAM 2E Top 50 MS62.
9) 1900-P VAM 18 Hot 50 MS61. I am okay with this one, too.

<< <i>Sent to ANACS? >>
Absolutely. ANACS is the best when it comes to variety attribution in my opinion. Some of the listed coins would not ever be listed on PCGS or NGC slabs because they are not Top 100, Hot 50 or Top 50 coins. The VAM 1Bx series, for example.
I agree with you there. I just sent in 13 coins to them today myself. A 1878 7/8 TF for another board member and a 1879 O/O highlight the group I sent in.

<< <i>Now I'm envious. . .I would be happy with that EDS coin too! Isn't it nice to buy coins and have them come back at higher grades than from what you bought them? >>
Jeff,
It is very nice to buy coins for lower grades and get higher grades.
The EDS was bought at the local shop. He had a small premium on it because it is a well-known variety and he looks for those. The premium, however, was very small compared to what the coin should sell for-if I decided to sell it ever.

Sure wish I could find some $10.00 VAM morgans.

Those $10.00 coins were in that big bunch of coins I searched through at the shop. I can't remember the exact total now, but there were close to 900 silver dollars. Most (about 750) were Peace dollars and the rest were 1921-PDS Morgans.
The first time I saw the two S coins (Thornheads), I passed them over, not knowing what they were. I knew of the thornhead, but I looked in the wrong place for the diagnostic gouge. I went back the next day and looked through the whole group again and found them. The shop did not put them out as if yet, so no one knew about the group.
All those coins have now been sold from the shop. I am hoping they get another group like that. Bunch of goodies. Clearly, the group had never been searched for rare varieties, so I was lucky. Out of all those dollars, I picked out and bought about 50 of them. Most of the Peace dollars are AU and the Morgans are XF to BU. Normally, I would not have bought the VF S dollar, but the variety is worth more than $10.00.
Thanks for the replies. Richard.

<< <i>Some very high grades on harder vams. Congrats! I've never found a VAM-79, they are frequently confused with vams

I thought for sure it would have graded PL. It's at least semi-PL if not PL.
<< <i>Hi Rampage, I just got some back from anacs too, an 1885-O vam-4, an 1882-o Vam 22, an 1891-S vam 3 dbl stars top 100 and an 1896 vam-3. Don't know if any of these are rare, have not checked yet. Congrats on yours-----------BigE >>
The 1891-S is a top 100, so that's a good coin to have. Only 99 more and you will have the complete set. Don't know about the rest yet. Not at home right now.
Congrats on your grades, too.
Richard.

When I get it back, I will take a scan and see how it turns out and then post it.
